I'm sure they missed the earlier easy questions when I started reading about war a few years later and my primary concern for about six months was what they did with (and how they identified) the bodies of political prisoners and genocide victims who had ended up in mass graves.

The explanation: after asking why one of my uncles didn't have a wife (we'd recently been to a wedding), my dad said Uncle had a partner who was a man and they lived together like married people (I'd been to their home but never thought about it, because I was four), and that was the end of it.

My dad explained gay to me as a small child in 1984. That was SO easy given my usual: do hummingbirds burp? How does money work? Which kinds of roadkill can you eat? Can you smoke a firecracker like a cigarette? Who owns the jumbo tow truck that hauls broken down buses and where does he park it?

That strike lasted 23 months. They were able to sustain that strike for nearly 2 years with union support and mutual aid. It works.

Oh! And Swanson's Fabrics in MA www.swansonsfabrics.com is worth looking at or contacting for resource suggestions.

I'm near San Francisco and we have an embarrassment of creative reuse stores here that I visit...frequently. If you find yourself needing something specific (certain needle or hook gauges, colors of yarn, etc), please send me a DM and I can try to source and ship them to you.

For ongoing yarn and supply needs and relevant connections you might reach out to fabscrap.org (a creative reuse depot in Brooklyn) and the Brooklyn Lace Guild since fiber nerds usually have multiple fiber hobbies (I've never met a lace maker who didn't also knit, crochet, sew, etc).

Probably 2: I was adjacent to but not actually part of the political machine in early-mid 2000s San Francisco.

The route map has them ending in Civic Center Plaza. I'll be a block away for something else that afternoon and am super curious how this is going to play out amidst the usual goings on there.

Any Indian curry over tater tots or a microwave baked potato.

Canned chili or stew w/ microwaved frozen veg and either tater tots or baked potato.

I plan ahead for struggle meals by keeping cooked rice in the freezer. That with any frozen veg, an egg, and a soy sauce packet is fried rice.

It's funny, all the books I thought I was reading in 2007 actually came out in 2010 ('How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe' and 'Big Machine') or they were older books shared with me by people I met around 2009-2010. Time is weird.

For fiction, I was obsessed with Cesar Aira, Haruki Murakami, and Philip K. Dick's non sci-fi books. My recreational non-fiction was all about San Francisco and Oakland (I moved to SF in '05) and queer memoir/history.

I'm not a gardener but I LIVE for pulling weeds and and doing garden stuff. My friends' places, their friends' places, the neighbor's barber's kindergarten teacher's godmother's boyfriend, whatever, I don't care. I work indoors this year and I just want to be outside in the dirt.

Sometimes I like them precisely because they're awful, but yes they are terrible.

Most soda pop. The cold and the sweet and the bubbles together is not for me, I can do one or two of those at a time but not all three.

02.02.2026 21:52 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Same. Sometimes I buy them because they're so pretty and then... don't enjoy them. I have found that I like them slightly better (texture wise) frozen but that's missing the point.

They absolutely use other phones. I have location and voice recognition turned off but did an experiment with a friend (whose phone has everything on) chatting about something unusual for us and within 12 hours I'm getting ads for it on socials where she and I aren't even connected. I hate it.

That is so rude and weird. I can only hope that they're sharing them far and wide but I doubt it.

And be ready to advocate/fight for yourself. My doc and HMO didn't want to do a titer and after going round and round with them (they said it wasn't necessary), I asked a specialist I used to see for something completely unrelated to order the test and she did because she's awesome.

In providing them a structure to journal (think out loud on paper, sort their thoughts, make notes about notes), you're giving them a tool that will serve them well in every aspect of their lives. What an incredible gift to those young people.

Seriously. Get them in cahoots with Woodside and let em unleash hell for a good cause.

Thank you for convening the shenanigans in the first place. I revisit this thread often.

The folks in the ultra wealthy towns between San Francisco and San Jose (at least one place has blocked having any multi-family housing in an entire small city) would be AMAZING at this. Skill is skill, put it to good work.

I was raised with, "If you don't like it, shut up until/unless you have a better plan." Took me years to get that "That's bad, this is what's important to us/non-negotiable, you figure it out and get back to us," is a completely valid way to engage with politicians and lawmakers.

Boston made a temporary Snow Farm in 2015 in addition to dumping it into the harbor because they couldn't get rid of what they'd plowed fast enough. Apparently the Farm didn't fully melt until July. I was there for work (I'm from California) and had no idea at the time it wasn't normal for then.

Thank you for the alt text. I have often wondered why this image pops up at the regular intervals on Ye Olde Internets and now I know. Appreciate you.

It seems a lot of other people also don't know why: the ads promoting his event with the Very Expensive Tickets were nonstop for weeks.

Our Flag Means Death. Especially the first season: the humor was so quick and SO dry.
