Didn't I say I was happy she was released? How am I trying to control anything? I'm calling out her absolute hypocrisy. My friends in Maduro's prisons weren't as fortunate as her to have their freedom of speech respected.
But I can call her out for it :)
Fine. But let's not chant "Viva Maduro".
Cautiously, more hopeful. At least there is potential for *some* change. A shift in power, however minimal, can open some avenues. Things were completely stalled.
Thinking about what makes me so mad about people's takes on Venezuela. Something clicked. It's fucking dehumanizing.
All your takes on oil, international law, Trump. And our people? Dead, imprisoned, displaced, persecuted, impoverished, silenced. Don't expect us to shed any tears for the dictator.
"For the first time since this tragedy began, it felt like Venezuelans were finally given a voice on the world stage to tell our story without the noise of global electoral politics or distortions of activist ecosystems. Quite simply, our moment to speak."

My phone keeps thinking that my Spanglish texts are in Filipino and keeps asking me if I want to translate them. I thought we'd reached super intelligence.
It had worked well for me in the past, but this time it was very weird. I agree with you! If the review form was designed to treat it as a revision and embrace the continuity of the assessment it would help with this problem. Wonder how we could bring this to the attention of the ARR chairs.
Yeah, I was wondering if it could be that. I think the quality of our papers (and def. the ones in my AC batch) varied considerably in quality, yet score distributions were way too uniform. Maybe with the rubric requiring explicit recommendations, reviewers are less likely to take a stance?
This ARR cycle, we resubmitted 4 papers addressing (meta)reviewer feedback. They all got lower scores than they had before (requesting same reviewers), and all had the exact same borderline scores (~2.5). All papers in my AC batch (about 16) also have the same borderline scores. It looks very odd.

A group of us came together to challenge the dominant narrative of AI research - paper out today. We posit that βAGIβ is as nebulous to define as its supposed benefits, and we argue that principled scientific, engineering and societal needs should drive AI research instead. Read π
What is the difference between 2 (substantial revisions) and 3 (major revisions) in the ARR meta-reviewer form? Why do we keep both of these?
Our workshop has been extended till Feb 20. We are looking forward for your papers at NAACL's Queer in AI workshop.
I'm going to print this out and hang it in my office.
I have seen some anti-peer-review takes on here, and, believe me, I understand the frustrations, but I would urge caution before doing or publicly saying anything too drastic. We live in age rife with misinformation and anti-intellectualismβnot everyone wants academia to survive
We are excited to welcome David Rothschild, Senior Principal Research and Economist at Microsoft Research, to Rutgers. David will discuss an ongoing project using LLM and Human-in-the-Loop coding to label news in near-real time. www.cs.rutgers.edu/news-events/...
