"If we do a great job, whose life do we improve and how?" is the most critical question a UX professional can answer about their work.
Far too many UX folks have no idea how to answer this about their current work. They're lost in a world of "improving the product" and not the people they serve.
Looks great!
An excellent content design leadership position at one of the most interesting tech projects in the UK: the not-for-profit genetics project Our Future Health. apply.workable.com/j/A2032FE81B...
A concert. Valerie June.
Obviously @hicks.design should take 95% of the credit. Great team effort tho!

Interesting event coming to London on Nov 27 for people interested in design and entrepreneurship. Organized by CIID. www.eventbrite.com/e/discover-y...
Starting without a plan feels risky, so we gather requirements. We aim for certainty when we understand the least.
Great products are an art of discovery, not perfect planning. What matters most is building and learning quickly.

I won't be at the summit but if you want to hang out and have a desk in Shoreditch, drop into the Hard Problems office. maps.app.goo.gl/7rjeCqFXaYhr...
Japan House in London has a wonderful exhibit right now featuring pictograms. The 3D renderings of pictograms are especially cool. (ends in a month, so hurry!) www.japanhouselondon.uk/whats-on/pic...
The image presents a comparison of the leading causes of death in the United States for 2023 and the media coverage these causes receive from three news outlets: The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Fox News. In the footer, it notes the data sources, indicating that the information is based on media mentions from Media Cloud (2025) and death data from the US CDC (2025) and the Global Terrorism Index, with a clarification that values are normalized to sum to 100%.
Does the news reflect what we die from?
Release early, release often! π

But did you get the thrill of seeing the platform number only 3 minutes before departure and squeezing down the ramp with the crowd as the staff blow whistles at you? #euston
If you haven't already, check out Junko Tabei's book Honoring High Places. Very very good.
The differences between climbing books written by men and women is so stark. Most men's books are about great accomplishments and extreme risk taking. Books by women actually observe relationships, leadership styles, and thoughtful discussion on risk taking.
Freedom Climbers book
I just finished Freedom Climbers by Bernadette McDonald, which tells the story of Polish alpinism. It's so good! Politics, relationships, and great observations on leadership and ambition. Strong recommendation.
See you in a few minutes, Brighton.
I almost got creamed this morning in London too... it's wild out there.
Ugh. That sucks. Sorry to hear it.
Design tip: stop using jargon
I used to think that using words like βcognitive loadβ made me sound smart.
But a lot of people donβt know what it means. So when explaining your design to your teammates, use simpler and clearer descriptions like:
Isn't pretty much every fascist cyberpunk novel about how people circumvent the cameras? Like these people haven't watched or read anything.
I didn't go camper but I just traded in the little BMW for a van (full electric!) too!
I don't know if I agree with the burger one, but I respect your bomb throwing.
Come join all of us in Brighton on Sept 17-18. Support a great homegrown conference!
See you there!
Side effect of leaving my job... no more Outlook or Teams! π
