Now the hospitals will remain open, but they will be owned by The Centurion Foundation, a Georgia-based nonprofit organization that has no endowment and has never run hospitals before.

Iβd love to see what itβll look like after the renovations. Do you know what stores (if any at this point) are left in that mall?

I miss malls. The local i grew up with in Connecticut just got bought out by my shipyard to be turned into machinery shops st the anchor stores and a cube farm in the middle.
My kids will never have that 3rd space they can go to hang out with buddies all afternoon.

as an ex mall employee (warwick not pvd) I wonder how much of the vacancies are driven by the middle-class type stores getting hollowed out.
when I got hired to work at ON years ago post-2008 the big competitor they saw was target for having cheaper clothes and later other fast fashion outlets

I guess Michael Townsend and his friends of βSecret Mall Apartmentβ documentary (watch it!) fame now have plenty of choices of places to stay.

We've got an obscene glut of large commercial space per capita and the enormous middleman between the retail and the consumer which is the mall makes it even less viable. Adds a ton of overhead. And having one mega landlord really hurts resilience.

"In total, nearly 40,000 square feet of space has never been finished. Thatβs the equivalent of 60 one-bedroom apartments."
Ok hear me out on this.... What if the unfinished space is converted INTO APARTMENTS? It's literally one block from the train station. Commuters!

Behind an unmarked door, thereβs an unfinished 8,000-square-foot expanse above the Cheesecake Factory. The drywall has yellowed, the concrete floor bare, save for some naked mannequins and old clothing racks. Itβs not the only always-vacant space in Providence Place mall. @bostonglobe.com
