Plus, the heavy load lasts ~30s or less, so IMO adding pod autoscaling into the mix could do more harm than good, as the database would become the bottleneck...
Since the work is mostly done by the database (see ticketguy.dev/blogs/2023-0..., old but still relevant), we usually need 4-5 pods distributed among the k8s cluster nodes, as Alf.io works reasonably well with moderate resources (1/2)
