One of the coolest photos of the lunar eclipse this week generated from over 800 images taken with a portable all-sky imager. You can see the transition of the moon into total eclipse with a very bright auroral substorm reaching overhead. What an amazing experience this was!

I understand why chatbot cheating happens but every time I read about it I want to gently remind everyone that the point of schoolwork is not for the submission to exist. Teachers are not just greedy for more essays or solved equations. The point is to do the work WITH YOUR OWN BRAIN, FOR LEARNING.

There are many interesting and challenging questions about AI and education, but what to do about a student who makes use of this sort of service is really not one of them.

Haha, that's cool. Curling is big in Scotland. There are 22 curling ice rinks in the country I think (maybe more) and schools in some areas teach it as part of physical education curriculum.

And UK got nothing in that game - the losing team in the game gets nothing. The total score is the sum of the scores from 10 games.

No, the score is the number of stones that your team has closer to the white bullseye than the other team at the end of each game. So in game 9, Canada scored 3, because at the end they had 3 stones in the house closer to the centre than UK had.

Scientists no Longer Find Twitter Professionally Useful, and have Switched to Bluesky
Synopsis. Social media has become widely used by the scientific community for a variety of professional uses, including networking and public outreach. For
Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!
"Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.
