The complexity and scale of the Al model often determine the infrastructure needs. For example, specialized Al used for robotics, home automation, or small-scale business applications can often be deployed locally
Does Al harm the environment? Not all of it, no. While large Al models (like DeepSeek or ChatGPT) do require significant resources and centralized infrastructure, many Al models are lightweight enough to run on less powerful hardware. Not all Al is generative Al.
OpenAl (who made ChatGPT) said that you can't train Al models without using copyrighted materials. What does this mean for artists, for creatives, for protected cultural information, and so many others when companies steal our data without our consent
Recently, non-Navajo people made an Al generated art series about a DinΓ© girl who loves STEM. This really disappoints me because there are so many talented DinΓ© artists to hire but they instead chose to use Al. Also, DinΓ© stories should be told by DinΓ©
Omg where did you find the video?
Ojibwe inventor Danielle Boyer speaking at the UNESCO Language Technologies for All conference at a podium with a laptop and her invention the Skobot (a personalized, wearable, and interactive Indigenous language revitalization robot that senses motion and speaks).
"Tribal sovereignty should be at the core of work with Indigenous languages." So excited to listen to inventor @danielleboyer.bsky.social speak at #LT4All #LanguageTechnologiesForAll, speaking truth to power about Indigenous language revitalization technology! βπ½π₯ Miigwech, Danielle!
They utilize AI for placement tests, lesson development, content delivery, chatbots, and to improve app performance. They speak a lot on their AI uses but not on their AI ethics.
Duolingo is in the news right now for their funny social media account, but behind the scenes are translator layoffs in favor of AI.
How involved should AI be in language learning? Especially when these languages include Indigenous ones? Duolingo has ChatGPT integrations and utilizes AI
I am pro gatekeeping for Indigenous communities. It means keeping sacred information, like our traditions, ceremonies, and stories, protected from people who mean to use it in ways we donβt consent to. We can fight for our rights and have a voice without giving up sacred information to just anyone
Itβs better for us to avoid these companies completely, because their intent speaks volumes and they only ever mean to tokenize us. Even with diverse programs, they will NEVER actually support us (2/2)
Hot take, but pressuring a company to support diversity & inclusion when they donβt want to is going to yield bad results. Like Target bringing in Black-owned brands and then doing nothing to support or promote those brands and removing them when they donβt perform well (1/2)

Diversity is a fact: All kinds of people exist.
Equity is a goal: All kinds of people deserve a chance at success.
Inclusion is how we get to equity. By including them, they can achieve success.
It's that simple.
This country was built on the genocide of Indigenous people and on the oppression of Black people. It has never been βdecentβ, only inhumane and of benefit to privileged people
I wrote about Google unveiling its 'responsible AI progress report' by quietly deleting the part of its AI principles where it promised not to work on weapons www.platformer.news/google-ai-pr...
My pretties
Definitely
No, it is incorrectly translated yet includes bits and pieces of real words. We wouldnβt put it together like that though
Itβs crazy that ChatGPT is capable of inventing new words that donβt exist in my endangered Indigenous language Anishinaabemowin. Indigenous languages must be handled with accuracy and care, and not be used to train tools like this from data scraping on the web. I wonder where DeepSeek will take usβ¦
Itβs baffling that non Indigenous people think they know what is best for the preservation of Indigenous languages. Even if you disagree with our methods, we have a right to choose what to do with our own languages. And we probably (definitely) have more context than you
A professional headshot of a woman in a navy suit with long black hair.
Iβm sad to learn that my law school classmate, Kiah Duggins, died in the DC plane crash last night.
Kiah was an exceptionally talented civil rights lawyer and aspiring legal scholar.
I hope youβll read about her work and the causes she cared about, some of which Iβll 𧡠below.
What an immense loss

Boozhoo (hello)! Iβm new to Bluesky. Iβm an Indigenous (Anishinaabe) youth robotics designer who makes language revitalization robots called SkoBots and makes technical education free for Indigenous youths
