When people ask me if I don’t miss the sound of an internal-combustion engine now I have an EV, the answer is no — because the last IC car I had that made a nice noise, I sold in 2006 (Alfa 156 V6 😭). Current IC cars use resonators and even speakers to make noise, and honestly, what is the point?

Plain old search works *better* in many cases. Sometimes “0 results found” is exactly what I want, not a confidently-delivered analogue of what a result might look like if it existed (which it doesn’t).

This is the time of chaos, where half my recurring meetings move by an hour while the other half don’t, depending on which side of the Atlantic the meeting was created on. Three weeks of this — just long enough for the rebound to be chaotic too!

The hard water thing? Yeah, we have very hard water here too, so we put in a building-wide water softener, and you can literally see the difference inside the pot.
But more seriously, why are you not drinking Turkish-style coffee? When it’s made with good ingredients, I actually prefer it, but I haven’t taken the leap to getting set up to make it at home.
That, and I do wonder whether the resulting coffee would be different (less fully expressed) than if the water had come up to temperature more gradually? But I just had my post-prandial coffee and can’t be arsed to make another pot to run the experiment.

The ones with decent range are still heavy because of the battery. My non-SUV EV is a literal ton heavier than the IC car it replaced. Admittedly I went up a size (the whole reason for the swap is that the old car could no longer comfortably fit the kids and all their clobber) but still: a ton.

I own a 12-cup moka pot, and it is indeed a bit of a faff — and takes ages to boil. I don’t use it daily, though, because I don’t have 11 friends visit on a daily basis! Speaking as an Italian, 12 cups in a day is still an eyebrow-raising amount, and in a sitting?!? Also it’d get cold…
Yeah, but there’s still traffic congestion and accidents, not to mention pollution from the tyres — both exacerbated by the additional weight of the things. An EV is better than the equivalent IC vehicle, but not as good as no car at all.
Doesn’t this just boil down to a gambit to make countries in the region unwilling to host US bases? “We said we’d only bomb the countries which attacked us, and indeed, we have been attacked from all of those countries!” I doubt that would do much in the short term, but in their shoes, why not try?
That’s my current preferred loophole too. But I remember reading a book where the space colonists had to pack up and move further out before their emissions shell would reach Earth…

On the open road, maybe, but in city centres with narrow streets crammed in between tall buildings — like, for instance, the street out front — an EV is *locally* far better than internal combustion. A bike would be better yet, of course, or the bus, which the city is also converting to EVs.
