I’m curious why people don’t ask Dorsey about his endorsement of RFK Jr. in the last election. Arguably RFK Jr. wouldn’t have his current position and power if the Trump campaign hadn’t seen him as a threat, and without whatever deal was ultimately made to get him to drop out of that race.
Oh yes, absolutely agree.
Just a note that Hunter blocked me for mentioning that ancestry does not definitively = Jewishness. I obviously agree about Grim, and the offensiveness/absurdity of his argument. But one of my two Jewish parents converted, and this whole way of approaching Jewish identity feels pretty icky.
And given that what’s under discussion is Platner’s antisemitism, this doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that people actually care about that antisemitism.
Sorry I guess that the discourse around Platner is ridiculous *and* Jewish identity is complicated.
Did a non-Jewish person just block me for this? Apparently so.
(Not a commentary on the ridiculous Grim thing, but on not reducing the complexities of Jewish identity.)
Again, though, family tree is not a definitive indicator of Jewish identity. My mother has Catholic siblings, whose religious affiliation would also be readily available in a public search. On her father’s side, she comes from generations of Protestant Vermonters. But she is Jewish.
Agree that Grim’s whole argument is absurd, the sourcing is as bad as it gets, and she clearly isn’t Jewish — but just a note that this kind of ancestry research doesn’t prove or disprove someone’s Jewishness. My mother was raised Catholic and converted to Judaism, for example.
Agreed. It was already bad, and has gotten noticeably worse.
In Gaza, Israel and Biden normalized war crimes beyond anything we have seen before.
And now, Israel and Trump are using that model against Iranian civilians.

More seriously good riddance to this cruel ghoul and may she be uncomfortable in the knowledge that her crimes follow her everywhere she goes
I profiled Jason Chavez, the Minneapolis city council member who has been embedded in community efforts to combat ICE.

The data I've just obtained shows that the Massachusetts prison system has sent more than 2,000 people directly into ICE custody since 2009. It's facilitated between 78 and 172 prison-ICE transfers every year. Governor Maura Healey and leading Democratic lawmakers say they support this program.
To underscore just how unusual it is for a blue state like Massachusetts to be formally partnering with ICE, note that a majority of D-trifecta states now ban 287(g) agreements with ICE. Among those that do not, Massachusetts is the only one with a state-level 287(g).

The Massachusetts Department of Correction has been fighting me for months, trying to withhold data about its collaboration with ICE.
Yesterday, I won that fight, and obtained records showing that the state has transferred more than 2,000 people into ICE custody since 2009.
A quick thread:
“.. Neither the Israeli nor U.S. government has directly addressed the strike on the school. But the U.S. Central Command said on Saturday that it was ‘aware of reports concerning civilian harm’ and was ‘looking into them.’”

It’s not lost on me that this is happening during Ramadan and during fasting hrs.
Last time US’s fiction-based belligerence killed 1 million real people, loved people displaced millions more. Isis was created in its prisons. Domestic surveillance went bezerk in the name of the “war on terror.”
I’m not a praying person but what is left? My heart is with our Iranian siblings.
I'm already sick of "It's all a distraction from Epstein" replies. This regime is killing innocent people because our leaders are all power-hungry tyrants and war profiteers. When you say it's "just a distraction" you minimize the gravity of what's happening and the lives lost.
Rent is due and we still need to raise tens--if not hundreds--of thousands of dollars. North Minneapolis doesn't get the same kind of attention the southside does, and kids there are hurting badly. If we raise $1000 I will match. (Reply, DM, or email.) givebutter.com/beyondthebell
New — I spoke to eight trans people in Kansas about the new state law that invalidated their driver’s licenses overnight, what’s it’s like to live there right now, plus details of two DMV emails exclusively obtained by The Handbasket that shed light on the law’s chaotic and cruel rollout:

A nationwide book ban bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives. Here's what you need to know about HR7661, including who is behind it, the history behind such bills, and what you need to do to stop it.
