Absolutely. The pathophysiology is so interesting, but the way she tells the story is equally riveting!
I’ll also add this one. The story of how such a striking clinical presentation could have a distinct molecular cause - and the role that both the clinical and laboratory sides played in elucidating it - was a huge inspo for me in going MD/PhD

MD/PhD student here. For me it was Oliver Sacks’ The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. I’m sure I’m not the only one who was inspired by it!
Agreed that anchoring science in physical results is crucial, but I think it’s a stretch to say most neuroscience isn’t tied to the physical. Tons of work on disease models as stated elsewhere, but also basic biology of neurons, synapses, glia, anatomical work, etc etc.

As awful as this looks…it’s even more frightening when they’re on a ventilator and do this. The advice a few years ago for pregnant women to get vaccinated was a great move.
First day on BlueSky and I see debates on single cell vs population neural coding and whether grad school can be fun. Looks like the neuro community ported over pretty successfully 😄
