Starmer is now a bunker PM. He is advised that he cant defend his incompetence and uselessness, so he is rarely seen, sends out lackeys to answer for him, and only comes out when its PMQ's, or in heavily managed press outings. UK democracy and accountability?
At the @libraryofmistakes.bsky.social. 9th March - exactly 250 years after the publication of "The Wealth of Nations".
A conversation about inequality - important to Smith, important today.
@neilmcinroy.bsky.social of EDAS and the Democracy Collective making his point enthusiastically;
Black people up to 48 times more likely to be stopped and searched in richest areas of London

"I want to express my thanks for the commitment, focus, and energy you have brought to ministerial office," Sir Keir Starmer gushing about #Simons qualities.
Here are some of his views:

Scotland passed the world’s first Community Wealth Building Bill.
Why do we need economic democracy? What are the advantages and areas of potential pitfalls in the bill? And where does Scotland go from here? Read the @futureeconscot.bsky.social paper by @neilmcinroy.bsky.social and I here:
'Scotland’s community wealth building legislation signals a collective recognition that patterns of wealth, policy and economic dev must change.'
Awesome progress and write-up from @neilmcinroy.bsky.social and team at @democracycollab.bsky.social!

All cabinet ministers need to reveal all communication with Peter Mandelson. The disgraced Lord and former US ambassador could have been a national security risk.
As the Scottish #communitywealthbuilding bill reaches it final reading in parliament, here is blog discussing how we got here and what is means for wider economic transformation.

Peter Mandelson trying to present himself as a victim of Jeffrey Epstein. WTF are @thetimes.com & Katy Balls doing colluding in such debased client journalism & at such an inappropriate time?
Labour's Lord Mandelson remains a Peer. Shocking. Labour - for decades - have turned a blind eye to this odious creep, allowing him into high office.
This is a scandal. And King hiding behind feudal law.
Labour have an open war over leadership. High stakes. Burnham made play for leader and to be Prime Minister. Now he either retreats and thus looks weak and unfit to be leader or fights to win.

Wilson's 'This is Manchester. We do things differently here' is actually 'this is Manchester. We do the same Neoliberal urbanism as everyone else'.
There wouldnt have been worst austerity budget since the war, if lib dems had not wholeheartedly joined coalition government in first place.
Greater Manchester's economic model is based on land and property investment, city center, consumption, financialisation and rentierism. It is neoliberal urbanism. Inequality has grown and levels of child poverty have stayed the same for 10 years.
Powell is being untruthful and we all know it. Burnham is making a push to remove Starmer. He aint wanting a seat to merely help out the team. He is wanting seat to be PM and lead his own team. He wants to be the manager.
Restrained? How? Budget after budget was agreed by Lib dems.
Ed davey leader of lib dems is on TV. He is talking how lib dems would solve cost of living, crisis in public services etc. However, he and #libdems created the crisis when in coalition government 2010-15- backing austerity to the hilt.
Less than 1 in 3 voters, voted in GM election for mayor in 2024. Burnham won on 63% of those. Meaning only only 1 out of every five Greater mancunians voted for him.
The real story is that Labour now has an internal war. Everyone knows it. It is a fight for who becomes PM. Voters are watching and it is deeply unedifying.
Welsh Labour leader pleads for more powers and money from UK to address likely defeat in Senedd elections. This looks like a last gasp and desperate move from a party that has had 26 years to confront UK on this.
Starmer needs to act to stop separatists running Wales.

This is all ridiculous and unedifying. An MP retires and prospective replacement candidate- #burnham - refuses to say he is interested - but probably is, whilst also being touted as replacement Prime Minister, but there is no vacancy! The voters are watching. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...
🔋 Energy resilience=economic resilience.
A study by @nvde.bsky.social finds that with a renewable-based energy system, the impact of a fuel price shock on the Dutch economy could be 80–90% lower than in 2022.
The energy transition isn’t a cost. It’s risk reduction.

⚡️Scots are ahead of politicians - 57% oppose new oil & gas drilling.
3 in 4 under-35s want renewables instead.
Even in the North East, nearly half say no to new drilling.
People want clean energy jobs, not more delay.
