Reading something as a 9yo which I felt worked in a filmic way was highpraise, well ahead of a lot of what was otherwise on offer - before I headed to sci-fi, other genre, 'literary' fiction, foreign writers in translation & modern classics.
Read 20+ of these as a kid. Tried Hardy Boys, meh. Tried Agatha Christie, too dry, misanthropic & death-revelling.
Did sometimes wonder if it were just an easy way to recycle film script ideas.
A young trio is such a good dynamic to expose the intrigue/motivations/deceptions of the adult world.
