An official letter from the Kansas Division of Vehicles dated February 23, 2026, with a redacted recipient address. The letter notifies the recipient that due to the enactment of Senate Bill 244, all Kansas driver's licenses and IDs must reflect the holder's sex at birth. It states that the recipient's current credential will become invalid immediately upon the law's publication on February 26, 2026, with no grace period. The recipient is directed to surrender their current ID to receive a new one matching their sex assigned at birth. The document concludes with instructions on how to appeal the notice if received in error, along with contact information for the department.
Kansas is sending letters to trans people telling them that their licenses will be revoked as of tomorrow and that they risk arrest for driving on a suspended license.
This is pure cruelty.

Tangential to the point at hand, do you think they meant “contrition” rather than “contortion”? I was genuinely confused for a bit there.
Does anyone else get the sense that RI officials decided to respond to criticism of snow removal after the late January storm by saying, "Oh, you thought we did a bad job? THAT seemed like a bad job? Let's see how you like NO SNOW REMOVAL AT ALL!"

every time i see a headline like this i think about how ICE takes billions of dollars FROM US that we should have in our communities to be building better infrastructure for impending climate disasters
Update, as of this morning:
When Onyx & I got up (for the 2nd time; I fed her around 7am, then went back to sleep), she hopped off the bed & investigated (1) a chew toy, (2) a catnip mouse, (3) … oh, whoops, that one wasn’t a toy.

Honestly, it’s not unlikely…
Yeah, it was quite the night!
Now fully awake, I read my book for a while and finally got back to sleep around 6:30.
About an hour later, Onyx made a half-hearted attempt to wake me up for breakfast, but she didn’t put much effort into it until closer to 8:45.
I guess she was pretty tired from all the excitement.
Around 5am, I felt a scratching at the edge of the bed & woke to find that the hunt had been completed.
I got up to deal with the “trophy”
by throwing it out the door into the woods. I then rewarded Onyx with some treats, and vacuumed my bedroom bc mortally terrified mice poop a lot.
My cat, Onyx, & I are housesitting my parents’ house this week. It’s in the woods, & there are mice.
Onyx had quite a night last night. She enjoyed several rounds of running around my room with a stunned mouse in her mouth, dropping it, then crashing around as it ran for safety under the radiator.

Reminds me of trying to use the Clifford St bike lanes where the car lanes AND SIDEWALKS were fully cleared & dry, and the bike lanes were sheer ice 🙄
