While I think having a Labour government is far, far better than having certain other governments in this country, this Bill, in my scientifically-informed opinion is terrible and anti-nature. These releases, while they would be good, demonstrate a glaring hypocrisy.
Yes, this is all well and good, from the same government who have basically said "F*** you" to our country's wildlife by passing this: www.gov.uk/government/n...
In 2018, an elite group of academics and scientists planned an exclusive retreat. The guests were picked by prominent New York literary agent John Brockman.
The problem? Brockman added two women to the list, and his biggest funder βΒ Jeffrey Epstein β wanted them out.

Marsh Clubmoss (Lycopodiella inundata) shoots creeping across a wet, bare substrate. The shoots are bottle-brush like, bright yellow-green with narrow, untoothed leaves sticking out from the main stem.
A series of Marsh Clubmoss shoots criss-crossing the flush, looking like a group of yellow-green centipedes running across the muddy ground
**BREAKING NEWS** - Marsh Clubmoss refound in Dunbartonshire, at a site where it was last recorded in 1854!
Being more-or-less evergreen, clubmosses make great botanical targets all year round. With that in mind, I set out to hunt for Marsh Clubmoss near Inveraran on the shore of Loch Lomond π§΅

I was going to take my copy of that book to the charity shop, but now it's going straight in the recycling bin....
No wonder that Edge, edited by John Brockman, was incomprehensible and a slog to get through. Almost DNF. I hadn't realised that all of those interviews that I read, conducted around the early 2010s (if I remember correctly), had such toxic, racist and misogynist undertones.
Exfeckingactly. Silly, silly BBC News.
Very cool! π
I've been fascinated by animals in this phylum since I first read about them in about 2015. I'm so delighted that research into the Xenoturbella genus is still very much ongoing and that these fab additional species have been discovered.

the "medieval people didn't know how to draw animals" crowd has been real quiet ever since john siferwas dropped the Perfect Woodcock
Thanks @bsbicountries.bsky.social for this reminder: there are still wild plants out there just waiting to be spotted, identified & recorded!
Find out how to submit a botanical record & why it's important:

Donβt know about anyone else but this is the densest display of Maidenhair Spleenwort I have ever seen

Early, hands-on encounters with plants, inspiring mentors, and emotional connections to nature are among the strongest drivers behind choosing a plant-related path.

We really are living in a terrifying society, absolutely galling that the Home Office can get away with such a hostile tweet.

Louvre catalogue entry for 'Deux hommes vus en buste, conversant', by Saint-Aubin, 1775. The drawing shows two bewigged gentlemen gazing at each other, one's hand about to tenderly cup the other's face
Ah, two men 'conversing', is it? π
