On top of everything else, oil and gas prices are going to spike because of Trump’s war in Iran.
But guess what doesn’t get disrupted by wars?
Renewable energy. Solar. Wind. Geothermal. Storage.
The EU is one of the world’s most fossil-import-dependent economies. In 2023, imports met 58% of its energy demand -near pre-crisis levels - leaving consumers exposed to price shocks. That’s far above China (24%) & India (37%); only Japan (84%) & South Korea (80%) rely more.

Absolutely we should fear terrorism and seek to prevent it.
But we should also fear those who use either real terrorism or bogus claims about terrorism to boost their own powers, restrict our freedoms and corrode our democracy.
Both present major threats to public life.
What happens when the Winter Olympics can't rely on winter?
For one, all the cities that staged the Winter Games since 1950 have heated up in the years since by an average of 2.7C.

The guy who owns Amazon shutting down the books section of the Washington Post is beyond parody
A 60% jump in EU LNG imports from the U.S. in 2025 managed to drive up greenhouse gas emissions on both sides of the Atlantic - in the EU from the burning of the gas, and in the U.S. by prompting a shift to coal-fired generation as prices rose.
Exclusive: A cyberattack targeting Poland's energy infrastructure in December used wiper malware that would have erased grid computers and rendered them inoperable had it not been thwarted, a researcher at @ESET told me. The researcher calls the attack "unprecedented" for Poland and "substantial"
Trump: "I haven't been able to find any windfarms in China."
Reality: China has far more windfarms than any other country on Earth
2025 was an exceptional year for the Earth's climate
⬆️ Warmest ocean heat content
⬆️ Tied as second warmest surface temps
⬆️ Second warmest troposphere
⬆️ Record high sea level and GHGs
⬇️ Record low winter Arctic ice
New State of the Climate over at Carbon Brief: www.carbonbrief.org/...
NEW: Coal-fired power generation fell in both China and India in 2025, for the first time since 1973. The drop came after record clean energy additions in both countries, and was the first time that clean energy was a major driver of falling coal power use.
Just a few things I'd like to say about this @hausfath.bsky.social piece.
The first is that every 10th of a degree of heating over 2C raises risks for multiple irreversible catastrophes MORE than every 10th of a degree of heating under 2C.
That's why the 2C target exists. It's not random.

Wall Street’s biggest banks made more money financing green projects than they did from working with fossil fuel companies for a fourth straight year, even as they faced ongoing pressure to pull back from the business
just so it's clear: this is the exact core function of genAI
Fascist government and climate deniers love it because it can produce the aesthetics of knowledge without any actual tendency towards truth. It is automated denialism.
Shame on every climate scientist promoting its use (there are lots)

Looking back to @wwattribution.bsky.social studies in 2025 showed again, in stark terms, how unfairly the consequences of human-induced climate change are distributed. The world does not have to be like this, we have a lot of agency to make it better. www.worldweatherattribution.org/unequal-evid...

A lot of people are going to lose money on this. Solar radiation modification only makes sense if followed by large-scale carbon dioxide removal, and we ain't got that.
The extent to which intelligent people can twist their brains in knots to avoid the obvious never ceases to amaze
For those willing to confront reality:
The IPCC is perfectly clear on the need to strand the majority of fossil fuel assets in order to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement
That ain't how science works.
NEW: A significant gap in weather balloon coverage in western Alaska, caused by Trump admin cuts to NOAA/NWS, may have hurt the forecast accuracy for the deadly storm there over the weekend. www.cnn.com/2025/10/14/w...

The energy transition is in full swing. Renewables have now surpassed fossil fuels as #1 for energy investment.
2025: Renewables investment to hit $780B
Last decade: Renewables up 109%
Grids & storage up 44%
Energy efficiency up 42%
Electrification up 131%
Oil down 34%, gas down 19%
Coal up 13%
The Trump admin is moving from denying climate change to rewriting it. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, a longtime oil industry executive, announced plans to “update” past National Climate Assessments, the gold-standard, peer-reviewed reports that lay out the risks of the climate crisis in detail.
BREAKING E.P.A. Is Said to Draft a Plan to End Its Ability to Fight Climate Change According to two people familiar with the draft, it would repeal the finding that greenhouse-gas emissions threaten life by dangerously warming the planet. 3 MIN READ
now that's a headline for the Trump era if I ever saw one
Hmm…I wonder why the Trump administration would terminate NOAA’s program to track billion-dollar weather disasters. 🤔
