I rode through 18th and Wabash going north a week ago, and it jogs east a tad when crossing 18th. I think that's the only intersection in the city that I've experienced that on.

Americans are addicted to cars, but in many ways it's a forced addiction. Decades of policy have made cars the dominant mode of travel at the expense of others, and marketing reinforces the car as the "best" choice. This isn't to excuse individual choices, but car dependency is a systemic issue.

My 75yo father rides a bike in Chicago. He is hardly a paragon of health. Does he ride everywhere? No. But he feels safe enough to make some trips by bike.

I have. It's quite unpleasant. Thankfully many cities have decent infrastructure that gets better every year. I live in Chicago. It's not perfect but it's pretty good nonetheless.
A golf cart might make sense for some people. I don't think they're allowed on the street in Chicago unfortunately.
Sure but most of the population lives in cities. If they can make some trips without a car, that's a good thing.
