Can always count on a long airplane flight for quality writing time. This one was extra special because as we touched back down, I wrote The End. Just the first draft, all long hand in a notebook, so plenty of work ahead, but I’m celebrating. #scriptsky

Camille - my first proper script. Wrote it in college based on a real life apartment complex that was destroyed by Hurricane Camille in 1969. An ensemble story about the residents living there in the week leading to the destruction.

Sticking with the metaphor… being in neutral isn’t a bad thing. You’re simply sitting at a red light. Your engine is primed. She’s raring to go. When the light turns green, it’s foot on the gas. Then it’s just about which of the 4 ideas presents the clearest and most exciting path on the road ahead.

As a kid, my family owned & raced thoroughbreds. Mucked many a stalls in my day but also met an unbelievable cast of characters at the track.

Finish the first draft of my current WIP sometime in the next month then dive into all its rewrites and drafts.

Howdy! I am David Byrne. Just started Act III of my current WIP, which is a genre-bending heist film. It takes my favorite genre to write… magic realism, and cranks it up to be more magic oh hell yeah!

For the last few years, I found a word to serve as my new year mantra. For 2026, I’m going with a phrase instead… But what if you led your own little rebellion? Letting that inspire me to think bigger and act bolder every single day. Hoping you all lead a few little rebellions this year. #scriptsky

Halfway through a genre-bending heist script. A team that’s part Ocean’s 11 cool meets Guardians of the Galaxy misfits. Hoping I can get this first draft done by early February.

Wasn’t the marathon writing I planned… more marathon movie screening for work. But outlined a new story and wrote the 1st 10 pages. Pushed a 2nd script into Act II. Wrapping research for a special project. Leaving for a work trip in 5 days, excited for plenty of airport & hotel writing. #scriptsky

Writing sprint while I wait for my dentist appt. Parked at the intersection of some known hauntings: the ghost in the shop window, next to the old funeral parlor, the founder’s cemetery, the pacing Civil War soldier, near where the girl drowned in the well… prime horror WIP real estate. #scriptsky

One of the joys of my life was running the Disney World Marathon. At one point the path went backstage at Hollywood Studios, and I got to touch the ship used in the movie! A definite burst of adrenaline to help me finish the race.

Celebrating the six year anniversary of the time the Universe screamed at me like I was in Field of Dreams.

And on this sixth anniversary, I actually received some good news that was another step forward for a big project… which cosmically puts all of this into a wonderful place. #scriptsky

Oh so true! Every script is a rather insane endeavor. I found I continually get notes about pace… I’m guilty of loving stories that area slow burn. So I’m writing that one story in my arsenal that felt like a shot of adrenaline to the heart from the start.
