Speaking of Astra, I’ve been deliberately seeking some opinions and I’m feeling better after some critical discussion. I’ll make a post about it once I finish getting thoughts from my current conversation.

Oh god, a friend asked about my Soul Eater AU fic for Maria/Esther, so I dug it up and it’s from…2020. I am not brave enough to read that. Also, 6.5k, which is like. Shorter than my Astra chapters are these days.

I have two sets of screentones: really simple ones I got from a free pack that look a lot like oekaki, and more professional / dimensional / textured-looking ones from True Grit. I like using them for different things because the vibes are SO different.

It's frustrating, though, I get it! I've had some really bad experiences in the past, too, that seriously damaged my perception of the artists in question. Anyway, it's not you; it's a whole weird melange of issues. But it still sucks.

I think this often comes from a pipeline of student -> artist, with no customer service job (or other typical job) experience buffer between those things. Lots of folks just don't really understand how to talk to people or what to communicate, for a variety of reasons, probably...

The Mournful Eye of God is the repeating religious icon within Night Divine and I think it's fun that we made it just. A normal generic eye. Like, eye-shaped with three eyelashes (and sometimes a tear). The fictional people have to revere this symbol that looks like a kid drew it. 👁

I'm not up to date on the more recent entries, so it's possible one exists now! Alternatively, she's the protagonist, so I guess she could also be the Lord unit...

I liked it! The first one (the only one I played) does do a sort of... gameplay loop, though, and even if they have a plot justification, it really put me off and dampened my enthusiasm in the last part of the game. But the mechanics of battle (which you also see in Octopath) are good.

FF doesn't really make accommodations for a balanced early magic caster type except red mage, but then there's a sword involved...

Solis/River make a weird pair on the Soul Eater side of things, because I think it makes the most sense for them to be the same role type. But that doesn't pair well. Hmmm. River is a meister by preference but is also a weapon, maybe??? Anyway.
