Community policing: expanding the carceral web Excerpt from Policing Black Lives: Revised and Expanded.

Fun fact: bridge toll removal and 1% HST reduction cost us appx $300 million.

All of the devastating cuts in the current budget?

$300 million.

Is your 1% HST cut worth the loss of tourism, arts & culture, educational quality and wildlife conservation in NS?

Is it standard journalist practice to only interview police and apologists for a story like this? (Notice Cormier’s β€œwe” identification)

Police always demand more gear, more money, more training but their violence is ceaseless. What prevents their murderous tyranny is reduced contact with people.

"based on several decades of available data, the existing evidence strongly suggests that drug law enforcement contributes to gun violence and high homicide rates and that increasingly sophisticated methods of disrupting Canadian gangs involved in drug distribution could unintentionally increase violence. There's a ton of research which clearly shows that big drug busts:

- cause more violence

- cause more overdose deaths

- have no positive benefits

(I'm not saying cartel leaders are all great people, I'm saying the best and only way to put them out of business is to end the drug war.)

While I half kid, I’m also totally serious and would absolutely be down to get together with any folks to plan something like this. And, tbh, theres a chance we're getting pretty close to a collective level of rage that could actually turn into a solid response. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Want to cut wages and transit and say fuck bike lanes and traffic safety? Cool. Let’s see how well this city functions if we’re only relying on drivers to show up.

I feel like everyone in Halifax/Dartmouth who relies on transit, active transit, or literally anything that ISN’T driving to work should get together and plan a city-wide worker strike (including essential workers) before this budgets out.

Peter’s also the first name listed in Fillmore’s campaign disclosures. Donations Andy made bank on - despite them mainly coming from these same barely surviving developers and LL's... Which Fillmore ALSO used for a ridiculous and obnoxious ad campaign filled with misinformation and false expertise

For context: Peter Polley is VP of Rental Housing Providers (RHPNS) - tied to the landlord-led β€œstop the tax” campaign (where they cry about being the victims who are barely surviving their own impoverishment.. all while shelling out ludicrous amounts on ads they refuse to disclose the amts for.)

Cleary has a question. Says from 2024 under Savage, to the 2026 budget that’s a 29% increase in mayor’s office budget. Given that the mayor wants a flat tax rate, is it appropriate to grow the mayor’s budget by 29%?

Halifax - we have the 3rd most congested traffic

Only real solution improved transit

political will
lets clog bus lanes with HOV cars
lets raise the price of transit to discourage use
well we don't want those pesky bikers being safe
Lets make it free to cross the bridge

So, if the β€œarmoured vehicle” is a a legally required OHS buy. But the city under funds plows for proper road plowing and a bunch of cars crash due to required work transportation, is that a city legal OHS lawsuit?

- yes, I am being facetious here. But also….

Despite MULITPLE court rulings - the Region of Waterloo continues to try to push people from the encampment at 100 Victoria Street.

In our latest, hear the many (carceral) ways Police, the Region and even social workers create more problems than they portend to address.
