they double bombed an elementary school for girls
When I first saw this headline I assumed it was talking about AI-powered fighter *jets* and this is only slightly less dystopian than that
episode two of the podcast I hosted with the CBC is out today, and it's such an important one: all about the targets of deepfakes, how they find out, and the messy, confusing, enraging aftermath www.cbc.ca/listen/cbc-p...
The power of artificial intelligence is changing the world
The police simply announcing they arrested "A man in his 60s from Norfolk" is incredible

High-level, actionable insights from watching doubles luge for the first time:
One on left is a black dog and above it the words βRealityβ. Below it is βI chased a squirrelβ One the right is a black dog and above it says βLinkedInβ. Below it says, Proud to announce that I effectively executed a rapid-response squirrel displacement strategy to mitigate potential yard intrusions. Humbled by the unwavering support of my family and local stakeholders. This experience reinforced the importance of vigilance, ownership, and continuous improvement. Looking forward to scaling this impact in future engagements.

Did you know that Trump himself had not posted the video when you defended it? Why would you accuse people who were offended by a racist video of lying about their reactions? What percentage of Trump's Truth Social posts are made by someone else? What percentage of Trump's Truth Social posts are made without his knowledge? How many people aside from Trump have access to his social media account? Who are those people? Which of Trump's other Truth Social posts were posted by someone else? How can anyone be sure that posts under Trump's name come from Trump? Why should anyone believe that this particular post did not come from Trump since it is consistent with his well-reported history of racist remarks and conduct? If people can't be sure any post is his, why should anyone take any post under his name either literally or seriously? What was the impulse for the staffer to make that post? Has the staffer been disciplined in any way? Will the staffer continue to have access to his account? What does it say about Trump's judgment that he would choose a staffer with this kind of judgment to have access to his account? Is the anonymous staffer a hastily invented concoction to which you pivoted once you realized that the story was going to outgrow your attempts to dismiss it? How do you react to the almost universal condemnation of the post? The President's late-night posting sprees are filled with lapses in taste and judgment as well as threats and pronouncements that go nowhere. What does that say about the President's emotional stability? What does it say about the President's honesty? What does it say about the President's credibility? Hasn't your own credibility been damaged by your defense of something widely seen as indefensible? What does it say about you that you were comfortable not only defending the video but attacking those who were offended by it? Doesn't the amount of lying Trump does, and that you do for him, undermine your ability to be trusted on anything?
White House press corps, I know some of you are shy, so let me help you get started. This isn't fifty questions--I could only fit twenty-one in alt text--but let me know if you need more!
You can tell because he didn't thank us for our attention to this matter
βEvery single woman had been in the facility about three weeks and had been living in the same articles of clothing for three weeksβ¦Their clothes had not been washed. They had not been offered fresh underwear or fresh clothing. Some of them were literally still in their snow boots from Minnesota."
Given the way things are going down south, I would not be surprised to learn the WaPo health team was gutted *because* it was so impactful and widely read.
A combination of capitalism, corporate media failures, and anti-journalism propaganda has convinced a lot of people that journalists exist to turn a profit. They no longer seem to realize that the purpose of journalism is for them, the people.
This whole thing where billionaires snap up media properties so they can run them into the ground to make it harder for people to call them and their cronies to account is extremely obvious and very tiresome. It also limits our access to largr information about culture and the world, also by design.
Bilbo looking at his phone top on bottom is ChatGPT After all, why not? Why shouldn't I keep it? You're absolutely right β you found it, it's been with you a long while, and it's only natural to feel fond of something that's served you so well, especially when someone like Gandalf suddenly seems to want it for himself.
Stop calling people trying to protect their neighbors and their communities "protesters."
This is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.
βWhen combined with what we know from ICE testimony and other public information, it gives us a blueprint into how ICE is going into communities and identifying people for arrest in real-time.β www.404media.co/elite-the-pa...
"Many of ICEβs critics worry that the agency is hoovering up pro-Trump thugs... for a domestic security force loyal to the president. The truth, my experience suggests, is perhaps even scarier: ICEβs recruitment push is so sloppy that the administration effectively has no idea whoβs joining."
I would really caution anyone against implying that paywalling this feature is a legitimate response to public outcry. The paywall is an endorsement, not a restriction. Musk is saying "this thing you're all talking about is valuable. Pay me for it." The actual material effect is just monetization.
You ever feel like you fell into some horrible alternate dimension
What amazes me is how quickly people are losing either the confidence or the willingness to complete basic human tasks.
I have been told we are posting perfect 90s albums
Iβm so tired of hearing why people βneedβ AI for this or that.
What about βthis technology is killing the only habitable planet we have AND is fueled solely by stolen work for which the vast majority of authors and artists will never see compensationβ is ambiguous?
Why does Carol never ask them to make the message shorter
This is absolutely insane advice coming from someone ostensibly teaching journalism
here's the 60 minutes cecot video part 1 of 5 - recorded/uploaded by and all credit to @jasonparis.bsky.social
I just reduced background noise, chopped the 14 minutes into 3 minute segments each compressed under 100 mb for bsky's limits, cropped and rotated a few degrees for easier viewing on here
Imagine if just by refusing to comment, you could stop any story from running. You would literally never find out anything unflattering about anybody. It amounts to asking people for their blessing to publish your reporting about them.
