Lisbon, Portugal - Rain Pause

Unlike past years where Daryl's B-Day involved trips to Naples or Paris, we spent a wonderful afternoon in Lisbon at Canalha (1 & 2) with carpaccio and shrimp 'tortilha.' Then, we renewed our love of Portugal w Pasteis de Belem. Stunning Japanese at Izakaya Cascais ended our day. #lisbon #portugal

On our last trip to NYC we had a great food day in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. We enjoyed pastries from Radio Bakery (1) a katsu sando from Taku Sando (2). Filter coffee along and a maple pecan bourbon pain Suisse at Paloma Coffee & Bakery and a fine smash patty burger from Gotham Burger Social Club.

It is. There are some mornings where we just approach our smoothies like frankenshakes. Take a bunch of fruit, put it in the #vitamix with some yogurt, a little ice and vooooommmmmmmm!!!! We even do a smoothie dance that starts at a disco pace and progresses into a frenzy!!

Friday Smoothie? Oh yes! A couple bananas, some pineapple chunks, blueberries, raspberries, yogurt and ice. It puts a spring in our step for the workday ahead and gets us in gear for the weekend. #smoothie #breakfast

One of the advantages of living in Iberia is the availability of good tomatoes most of the year. How could we resist plating up a bunch of #cherokeetomatoes dressed simply with salt, evoo and oregano. Place a burrata in the center of the plate with torn basil and you have a lunch party.

The toxicity is debatable. Additionally, we only ate them at one meal. They were not only sold to us at a popular public market but there are entire festivals in Portugal that feature these mushrooms.

It all depends on how woody they are. If they’re woody we wouldn’t cook them with eggs. We still remember buying mushrooms in Catalunya that were meatier than expected and needed a lot of time on the pan.
