Excellent and informative read. My only (not surprising) quibble is to also include considerations about the rights of students.

The problem with school boards
Political scientist Vladimir Kogan says school board politics often reward adult priorities. He explains why culture-war fights and off-cycle elections can leave students behind.
New-
I spoke with political scientist Vlad Kogan about his provocative new book "No Adult Left Behind." He argues that the politics of public education privilege the interest of adults over students. I tried to pressure test his arguments in this Q&A.

Devastated to learn that Univ of Texas at Austin is closing the American Studies dept. The years I spent there earning my PhD were formative, making me the teacher, thinker, and writer I am today. I've passed on what I learned at UT to thousands of students over the past 20 years. Just awful.

Why? Because the professors who teach gender studies courses are often more willing than others to speak up when people within academia are doing or benefiting from harm to girls and women. And because those classes prepare students to see and call out similar problems in other institutions too.
