Do you have the coordinates? 25.2048ยฐ N, 55.2708ยฐ E?
International law protects sovereignty. It was never meant to be a shield for permanent aggression.
If a government systematically exports violence and destabilization, it cannot expect the same moral deference as states that abide by the rules.
Efforts to remove the ๐ฎ๐ทregime are justified #FreeIran
When a regime has, for decades, armed proxies across the region, financed terrorism, crushed its own people, and openly called for the destruction of another UN member state, it is no longer just โanother stateโ claiming equal innocence under the law.

๐ฎ๐ทI respect those who defend international law. The UN Charter does not permit war for regime change. That principle matters.
But letโs not pretend this is a binary moral equation.

๐ฌ๐ช๐ฌ๐งBreaking: The โPolitical Councilโ of Georgian Dream has decided that when the UK sanctions two propaganda outlets, the appropriate response is an unhinged attack on its pro-Western political opponents.

When a government reacts to sanctions by invoking โdeep state,โ โglobal war party,โ and mystical foreign forces embedded in Europe, it is not projecting strength.
It is projecting stress & fear.
9/9
Perhaps the most revealing line is this: the opposition supposedly โwaits on its knees for instructions from foreign patrons.โ
Projection is powerful. ๐ท๐บ
8/9
If your rival is truly โon the verge of non-existence,โ why the need to outlaw them?
Minimizing the opposition has become the core governing ideology.
They just forgot not to say it out loud.
7/9
The irony is almost poetic. GD call the opposition irrelevant, dying, and without support.
๐นYet they ban opposition parties
๐นCriminalize dissent
๐นAttack NGOs
๐นLimit free assembly
๐นSanction journalists
6/9
This is language last seen in North Korean๐ฐ๐ต press briefings, not in a country that claims EU candidate status.
5/9
The statement is a masterpiece of ideological creativity. The opposition is:
๐นโstatelessโ
๐นโhanging between life and deathโ
๐นan โagencyโ of foreign masters
๐นpart of the โglobal war partyโ
๐นcontrolled by the โdeep stateโ
๐นembedded in โEuropean bureaucracyโ

Nothing screams โindependent journalismโ like a ruling party issuing theological manifestos about why its favorite TV channels are sacred vessels of truth.

๐ฌ๐ช๐ฌ๐งBreaking: The โPolitical Councilโ of Georgian Dream has decided that when the UK sanctions two propaganda outlets, the appropriate response is an unhinged attack on its pro-Western political opponents.

This morning, the UK sanctioned Georgiaโs largest broadcaster, Imedi TV. No media organization has done more to amplify the regimeโs anti-Western propaganda amid the war on Ukraine, or to rationalize Georgiaโs descent into violent authoritarianism. 1/9
Georgian Dream MP Viktor Japaridze (right) who held 52% of POSTV shares, also narrowly escaped sanctions (for now) by registering the shares under someone else just days ago.
A short while ago, Irakli Rukhadze (right) also sold his Imedi TV standings for GEL 1,000 / ~ EUR 320.
I do not think I am promising too much if I say that this story will blow your mind -- how esoteric numerology with bizarro claims about Aryan, Chaldeans and Mesopotamia gives you a surprisingly accurate insight of how to understand #Georgia today.

World order, if it is to mean anything, must be upheld properly, not impulsively.
In a time of sharp rhetoric and growing polarization, this is sober, principled statecraft from Amb. Fischer.
Highly recommended reading.

That balance is uncomfortable for many. Interestingly, he both validates the frustration felt by many Georgians and reminds the more impassioned among us that diplomacy is not activism.
States operate through law, institutions, and process.

He makes two points that matter:
๐นGermany is not in the business of โregime change.โ
๐นBut it is in the business of defending principles, rules, and European commitments.

๐ฌ๐ช๐ฉ๐ชA long read - but worth your time.
In his interview, German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, is refreshingly direct about Georgiaโs crisis and Germanyโs position.

BRIEF SUMMARY ON THE NEW STAGE OF ASSAULT IN ๐ฌ๐ช๐๐ป
The Georgian Dream wants to speed-run in a gamble, they know that their medium-term is brittle. They no longer care about any popularity, they only care about subjugation through disorganization, managed poverty, and emigration. 1/

๐ฌ๐ชGeorgian Dream joins Tehranโs mullahs in celebrating the Islamic Revolution, honoring a request from the Iranian Embassy to light up Tbilisiโs TV tower in the colors of the Iranian flag.
The same regime has killed thousands of its own people.
This is what GD chooses to support.
Georgia, the most persistent civic resistance in contemporary Europe, needs one key ingredient โ a viable political alternative. In the absence of a dominant, that means some form of unity among democratic parties.
Such an alternative would swing the process in several ways: ๐งต

The West cannot hide behind the OSCEโs Moscow Mechanism. By the time reports are written, the damage will already be done. Fact-finding is not a response strategy. Delay now means accepting repression as the new normal.
9/10
Western governments now have a choice. Either respond with real political and economic consequences, or accept responsibility for enabling the criminalization of opposition in Georgia. Statements of concern are no longer enough.
