Bind Variables – Worse than you were told Many of you probably know Martin Bach.  He’s a colleague here at Oracle although we’ve both been good mates in the Oracle community long before either of us joined Oracle. But here&…

You could call it "Bind Variables, mostly good except when they're not because Oracle isn't perfect and sometimes the optimizer has to guess, so you've got to do work to help it out**"

or maybe

"How many child cursors? Gosh that's slower"

🌎
🔥

**yes, also for literals but less so

That's great!

Now do one where bind variables get much worse results than using literals.

That was just the grimmest footy match. We were utterly terrible.

Port Vale worked really hard and deserved it. 👏

Larson comic. A newspaper seller saying “well I’ve got good gnu’s and bad gnu’s”. The booth behind him is full of gnu’s.

This joke doesn’t work in the UK because we pronounce gnu incorrectly.

This made me realise I pronounced it the Flanders & Swann way.

I love this cartoon.

What’s the point of VAR if it doesn’t clear up stuff obvious to everybody except the ref 🤷‍♂️

Leeds manager Farke looking grumpy as his sides poor selection, formation and lack of ideas led to them being were beaten by the mighty Sunderland. I mean, setting up like that against a severely injury depleted Sunderland side with a 22 year old debutant goalie.
HAWAY THE LADS!

Enjoying the #LUFC reaction on here following last night loss against #SAFC

Similar VAR complaints to ours against Bournemouth at the weekend for the O9 rugby tackle (both were pens, both weren't given)

Still, 40 points and planning for next season in the #EPL

Adaptive Scalable LGWR Mode Switch Threshold Single->Scalable Oracle fundamentally reworked and redesigned the LGWR architecture in 12c. In earlier versions, LGWR ran as a single process, whereas Oracle 12c and later can dynamically switch between a single LGWR ...

When does lgwr transition from single to scalable mode?

Flying grue?

I can’t even make the really poor taste zeitgeisty joke I want to make as this is public social media, so I’ll leave it to your imagination. 😬

Picture of two packets of Opal Fruits/ Square, chewy sweets that tasted of fruits and come in a long, yellow, oblong packet and the flatttened-square sweets were wrapped in bright, single coloured paper. They are now called Starbursts

I can pinpoint the exact moment the UK went to the dogs and our society began to crumble. It wasn't a new PM, a specific law came in, or even a sporting tragedy.

It was in 1998 when Opal Fruits become Starburst!

38 years of UK childhood thrown under the wheels of international commercialism!

I miss opal fruits. They didn’t just change the name, the changed the flavours too. We lost (sub)lime and replaced it with the insipid blackcurrant.

Some kittens were out walking on that earlier when the ice broke, and un deux trois cat sank.

(NB: this doesn’t work with actual French people as they insist that it sounds nothing like cat - it’s cattre! 😂)

Watch the Royal Institution CHRISTMAS LECTURES archive Watch all the Royal Institution CHRISTMAS LECTURES back to 1966, when the lectures were first televised.

Guys guys guys, I found the archive of the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures (it's not an achievement, they've not hidden them) - you can watch every single one since they started televising them in the 60s:

www.rigb.org/christmas-le...

I love watching them every year, now I can see them all!

50/50 main/sweet, or only main course version?

Traditional beef/carrot/swede/onion or something more esoteric? Per chance, a bourgeoise coq au pastie?
Pasty Brulee?

Which is quite a ridiculous thing for me to say.
