B.C. residents want answers about β€˜foul’ odours from oil and gas waste facility | The Narwhal When the wind blows past an oil and gas waste dump, residents of Rolla, B.C., say their homes are sometimes hit with foul, chemical smells, leaving them asking why

A waste disposal facility for the oil and gas industry opened in Rolla, B.C. in 2010.

For years, some neighbours say their homes have been hit with foul odours β€” and they still can't find out what's causing them. thenarwhal.ca/oil-and-gas-... #bcpoli

Yeah! It looks like it might have some wonderful wide open space inside. I’m sure there’s a few gems of interiors among those homes.

You could be onto something. Like Dwell magazine, but .. I’m lacking the word, but for these homes

Oh no I think it’s real! It’s just so horrendously β€œwrong”, it feels wrong, it looks wrong, and someone made a decision to mix all of that together so that it’s seamless, it’s absolute madness! So AI slop was the first thing that came to mind!

That is actually painful to look at.
Almost looks like AI slop.

Getting a cold snap so maybe some ice climbing next weekend!

4 month Shiba(#2) was enamoured with the snow. Shiba(#1) was enamoured with her breakfast.

Yes! body awareness, balance etc and I think it was a good balance for the native bulk, helping to maintain flexibility.

We’re getting all that tech we thought was cool, but it’s the β€œwe have that at home” version.

Tight corporate control. I’m very afraid for our digital liberty with personal devices in the next 3 years. 0 ownership.

Listening to the birds singing before the sunrise makes me smile.

They have no concern for human constructs like daylight savings.

Using a new computer to print another batch of my Raven cards.

Testing the colour print profiles - a little too much blue in the grey!

I love watching Ravens in the local mountains, this one was at Cypress a few years ago. Highly intelligent, large, and always a little mystery about them.

Some more photos from ice climbing in mid February.

On a good day, ice climbing is beautiful and intimate, tranquility of frozen waterfalls, you can see and feel all the details in the ice.

Our many aging cherry trees, originally a gesture of friendship by pre-war Japan, blossomed last week. Lovely, but: global warming.

That’s lousy. As I understand it if the battery health is under 80% you may be able to get Apple to replace the battery for free. Otherwise it’s about $100 to get them to do it. It was worth it for me (keeps my mini 13 going), but it’s still lousy.

It’s not an easy call to make but the alternative is worse. Situations like that can get out of control so fast - I think even with pushback they can be pretty comfortable they are doing the right thing.

A few more photos from the ice festival - next day doing β€œdry tooling” where ice tools like crampons and ice axes on rock to climb.

The points of the tools make contact with the tiniest of holds in the rock and usually there’s a lot of tension through your body to hold it. Very challenging!

At midnight, the ice wall we were climbing collapsed. Temperature in the day was 5c. Dropped to around -8 at night.

The area was too risky to continue climbing. The debris would have been catastrophic if it happened during the day.

I’m out at the Lillooet Ice Festival - this has been an extremely warm winter but we have a pocket of ice - though we need to be gentle with it to keep it intact.

Really interesting to hear how climate change has impacted/changed cycles of snow & freezes.

Here’s a climber from yesterday.

Western Canada glaciers suffered 2nd-greatest ice loss on record in 2025 | CBC News "We have to understand that it's not a question of if the glaciers are going to disappear, they are going to disappear," warns Brian Menounos,Β a professor of earth sciences at the University of Northe...

I just saw a bear in my neighborhood.

They should be hibernating. Spring like winter is screwing everything up.

The bear will try and fail at foraging for food, and come into conflict with humans, either directly or into people’s garbage. No good outcome for it.

It is pretty heartbreaking to see the local mountains so barren of snow.

I think this is the warmest winter on record. This is likely the new norm, with β€œgood snow” days becoming an anomaly.

This will lead to drier mountains in the summer, fire risk, right outside the city.

I’m attending an ice climbing festival in 2 weeks.

There’s a high risk there will be no ice in a very reliable area. This may be the first year it happened.

The evidence is there that climate change is happening, now, and you can see it with your own eyes if you’re willing to look.

Not an ideal spot to camp last weekend, but I ran out of light and didn’t feel comfortable navigating the rest of my trip on unknown terrain in the dark.

I pitched my trusty @tarptent.bsky.social scarp1 near the trees to stop (maybe) sliding over the edge on the sloped ice overnight. Great sunrise!

Banana radiation dose is in the top left, two blue squares.

I think the chart was created in response to fears from Fukushima after the tsunami.. and the banana dosage was bandied about a lot.
