Thanks for this! The sports movie I've seen the most (10x?) was the TV movie "Brian's Song" (1971), based on the friendship between Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo. Kind of along the lines of "Love Story," which appeared one year earlier, but with guys and a football. Cried every time.
