That's why we're doubling penalties for misleading conduct - now up to $100M - ramping up surveillance of suspicious price spikes, and improving coordination of fuel deliveries, especially in regional areas.

These changes will also maintain tax concessions for super but better target them for large balances over $3 million.

Labor built the superannuation system, and these reforms makes it stronger, fairer and more sustainable.

As two middle powers in this world of global uncertainty, our countries have so much to gain from open trade and encouraging investment.

Always a privilege meeting with Canadian Finance Minister and my good friend François-Philippe Champagne, this time here in our Parliament.

We agreed to prioritise modernising our Australia–Canada Tax Treaty to support investment, including for our superannuation and pension funds.

Australia and Canada see the world in similar ways.

We’re both middle powers that believe in working with others.

That means closer cooperation on investment and economic security, in a world of global instability.

Great to have you in Parliament today, Mark Carney.

BREAKING: New numbers show the strongest growth in our economy in almost three years.

The Australian economy grew 0.8% in the December quarter, to be 2.6% higher through the year - this growth is much stronger, broader and very welcome.

This is faster growth than any major advanced economy.

This continues Australia's streak of historically low unemployment - the lowest on average for any government in the last 50 years.

We’ve made a lot of progress together on the economy but the job’s not done because inflation is too high and people are still under pressure. That's why inflation, productivity and global uncertainty will be big focuses of the budget. #auspol #ausecon

More than 725,000 Australians have enrolled in Labor's Free TAFE.

This is all about helping people in our local community and around Australia to get secure jobs with decent pay.

It means more nurses in our hospitals, more tradies building homes, and more early childhood educators for our kids.
