Please check out my tribute to the late, great Malcolm Fairley. A much missed birder and friend...

Luckily, the Greater Short-toed Lark, found by Nathan Pickering at Snettisham late yesterday evening, was relocated at dawn before vanishing for several hours. A teasing glimpse late-morning stimulated further relocation efforts, with rich rewards for those who braved the rain. #NorfolkBirding

You never quite know what to expect on Fair Isle! A female Nightjar just before lunchtime, then the evening produced a Blythβs Reed Warbler and an amazing Scops Owl, much to the delight of guests and islanders at @fairislebirdobs.bsky.social #birdingscotland

Daukes' notes on Black-tailed Godwits. The detail in the calls is just perfect...
Recently I was lucky to be given this exquisite little leather-bound notebook that represents a glorious piece of Cley ornithological history. The notebook belonged to Major A.H. (Archie) Daukes. Within the pages, dating from 1949, are meticulous observational notes.

Fire at Holt Country Park. With such a dry and hot spring, we need to be aware of the risks. Hopefully any fires can be dealt with quickly.

Star bird was a female red footed falcon on our guided walk at Abberton Reservoir, but add in spoonbill, cattle egret, hobby, red kite, greenshank, common sandpiper, common tern, swift, nightingale, willow warbler, cuckoo .... all added up to a wonderful morning. #essexbirding
Red-footed Falcon showed well in Hide Bay (better than my photo effort!), at Abberton this morning then sat on the power lines below Layer Church. Also Garden and Willow Warbler. #Essexbirding

After very distant views earlier, I was glad when Abbertonβs Red-footed Falcon appeared almost over head along the path behind hide bay this aβnoon. A much welcomed Abberton tick for me. Getting harassed by gulls quite often, feeding higher up when the sun was out #essexbirding

Heβs back! Lovely start to this yearβs Abberton CES for @btobirds.bsky.social with return of a Nightingale we first caught in May 2023 that had originally been ringed, in itβs first winter, in The Gambia π¬π² in January 2020. Now 6 years old with 12 migrations completed. Epic!
