... for everybody else.
The people living with the mould don't have their problem solved.
The council has to send somebody again.
And, in time, there's a decent chance the council gets sued - so loses more money to legal fees and compensation.

Mould on the ceiling of a council flat in Lambeth - which has been treated, pointlessly, three times previously.
Here's something horribly broken in council housing:
Reports of mould have somebody sent round to temporarily remove it with a spray.
Inevitably the mould returns in a few weeks - because the repair hasn't even *tried* to address the underlying issue.
Great for the contractor but.... terrible...

Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch writes to the Prime Minister to say that tripling and quadrupling settlement times to 15 and 20 years "are a good start but should go further"
Settlement taking that long are very niche positions among the public - British Social Attitudes - but popular among elites

Do you look at America right now and think βthat looks greatβ?
Didnβt think so - because polls show most Brits do not like the idea of a violent, racist organisation dragging citizens to camps and shooting people in the streets,
But apparently Reform UK think itβs a great idea. π€―

This article was amended on 5 March 2026. An earlier version said low-skilled workers would βreceive immediate access to welfare and social housingβ if Labour did not make them wait longer to apply for settlement. In fact, settlement status only gives people the eligibility to apply for welfare and social housing, it does not give them instant or automatic access to such benefits. This has been clarified.
From breaking news to huge investigative proje
Guardian has now [after my complaint] corrected Mahmood's deliberate & incendiary false claim settlement gives immigrants "immediate access to welfare and social housing".
Good for Gdn but embarrassing/shameful that Home Secretary deliberately misled the public for political gain like this.

If it was to a company director, you'd be legally obliged to charge interest.

Lambeth council say it will be another month until they can fix it!
It is completely mad that people are kept awake at night and huge amounts of water are wasted because the council can't get their act together.

"would otherwise receive immediate access to welfare and social housing" is BS.
Correct: "after 5 years working in a care home, would be eligible to apply for welfare and social housing on the same basis as the rest of us."

Unless you have a *lot* of electricity use going on, then a 3 hour evening peak is pretty easy to power from a battery.

Banning Afghan students is idiotic.
