When the weather stops us surveying and we have to remember if it's stood for this long it'll probably last another week
Hi Thomas! We used an Artec Leo Structured Light Scanner (SLS) for this project. Similar to a laser scanner in capturing excellent geometric data but this uses light. This technique works well on monuments with detail difficult to see and which may not show up as clearly with other methods
Excellent day 2 at Seven Fonts! A great bunch of students who were very engaged and had lots of interesting theories on the purpose of the bullaun or font stones

First day of @ucdarchaeology.bsky.social UG training fieldwork programme. Starts on campus with lectures inc. from our friends at the @discoveryprogramme.bsky.social who are providing scanning, photogrammetry and geophysics training. Then geometry with long tapes! Beautiful 10x10 squares from all.
A promotional image. It features an aerial view of fields bordering the River Suir at Woodstown in County Waterford. The title text reads: Woodstown What Lies Beneath, What Lies Ahead.
If anyone is around Waterford this Friday, I'm giving a lecture on Viking Woodstown for the Waterford Archaeological & Historical Society, based on the plans for the site and the results of the recent surveys.
It's on at 8pm, 13th June in the Medieval Museum. And it is totally free to attend.

Happy Spring Equinox from Discovery Programme!
At Loughcrew, Cairn Tโs passage aligns with today's sunrise. Cairn T is managed by @opwireland.bsky.social, it's currently not safe to enter, so we've collaborated to share 3D models of the site
Thank you @nebulousflynn.bsky.social for adding our model of Cairn T, Loughcrew to Week 12 of your Top Cultural Heritage Models 2025! Some great work here & nice to see the Discovery Programme amongst them.
