The surprise and disappointment have not worn off. After spending nearly a decade trying to popularize this infrastructure and trying work w/ @nyc-dot.bsky.social we were completely left behind by the Adams admin.
We will have more to share soon.

Marco Rubio seems to be saying that we went to war because Iran has lots of missiles and drones?
In the photo there was an out of order sign, Iβve never seen it working haha.
Does it look like this? If not, it's probably maintained by the Parks Department. These JCD units are maintained by the city's street furniture vendor.
for as long as I can remember. I've never seen it in operation.
New day, New Trump.
Trump is now openly saying that the UK has sharia courts, which is basically a lie.
Some communities have their own religious arbitration councils but these are not recognized by the government and have no power-- these are mainly for divorces etc.
Btw, we have these in the USA too.
So after spending the last year trashing European allies, replete with threats of invasion and trade ruin, now Trump is mad because they don't want to be dragged into our "preventative" war that they had no say in or advance notice of.
k.
The city is investing $4 million into new bathrooms but multiple existing bathrooms already exist. Agencies don't have the OPEX to run them, as expenses can run as high as $80k per year for cleaning and maintenance.

FWIW the city should consider re-activating the NYCDOT JCD toilets that have been out of service since I was 12 years old. These were part of the 1998 street furniture contract (bus shelters, newsstands etc) but the self cleaning never worked.

The current Iranian regime is very brutal to its people and all that but we had no problem propping up the Shah who was also pretty brutal to Iranians.
The Humanitarian angle may not be the most credible argument that we can make.
Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it.
Happy @thecity.nyc followed up on this; it should not take NYC 6-12 weeks to pay laborers for snow removal. Often these are people who need the money sooner than later. Really hoping admin can expedite.

NYPDβ¦flimsy charges? Why, I would have neverβ¦.

Video of "attempted robbery"
youtube.com/shorts/ln31s...
Clip of the NYPD's "attempted robbery." I don't think being a prankster excuses you from accountability, but it should disturb folks that official NYPD account is framing this person as a violent criminal when they're just a really annoying prankster that crossed a line.
youtube.com/shorts/R6wzl...
Iβm not going to excuse his actions but as others have pointed out, itβs really dishonest of NYPD to suggest that this person was arrested for attempted robbery.
It was YouTube prank. Theyβre obviously trying to insinuate that this person has a pattern of violent behavior.
Some βcollabsβ but it seems like this will be much more straightforward advertising and much more frequent.
Itβs also resulting in damage to equipment and confrontations with workers. The teens often crash trains into each other and pepper sprayed (!!) a worker who walked in on them last year.
This is a small community of young teenagers, perhaps enabled by a few folks who are older. Theyβre chasing clout on social media and they have an unhealthy fascination with the subway.
Scary that this can be exploited by ppl w/far worse intentionsβ¦.
Glad that @nytimes.com covered this. I grew up in NYC and was also fascinated with the subwayβ¦I never dared to break into an MTA facility to hijack a train.
The thought literally never entered my mind. Huge security risk for all involved.

This sounds like a truly horrific idea. No pun intended.
I wasn't always a fan of the Cuomo era livery on NCYCTA busses, but it's really growing on me.
This thread is wild. There are so many PSAs about subway surfing that I guess those in charge forgot to make ones about βhey, donβt hijack a subway car.β
Police can also track down these kids. They post the vids publicly.
...and every train operator I've spoken to believes its only a matter of time until a worker or a kid gets killed or injured.
These are like <100 kids who are literally uploading their crimes to Tik-Tok. Law enforcement combined with better tech can substantially mitigate this issue.
Alternative is waiting for someone to get killed and then the circus will be here; transit will spend millions w/NYPD to rapidly fix
