Miami DL Rueben Bain Jr. did more to change the culture of a Canes program that had been spinning its wheels for almost two decades until he decided to stay home. But he’s gonna be one of the more polarizing prospects in this draft bc of his arm length: www.nytimes.com/athletic/708...
This is a really smart episode. Well done, Godfrey.
This is a good tease. We may steal it--"which SEC coach or AD would @ralphdrussoath.bsky.social like to throw down a well..."
In Max Iheanachor, a former HS basketball player born in Nigeria who moved to the U.S. at 13; and Treydan Stukes, a former walk-on who ran a 4.33 40 with a 1.50-second 10-yard split, ASU and Arizona produced two of the Combine’s best stories: www.nytimes.com/athletic/708...
What do NFL folks really think about Rueben Bain’s short arms; the edge guy NFL D-line coaches are higher on than draft analysts; and why Cooper DeJean isn’t actually the comp for Dillon Thieneman;

The point was, when he was coming out of HS he committed to a program that was D2, not FCS. I think they also played some non-FCS programs in his first season in college. It's not a knock on Lindenwood. Great on them for IDing him and giving him a chance out of HS.
Very curious to see how Alabama OT Kadyn Proctor does today. Came in at 6-6 1/2, 352. He weighed 366 last offseason when he was No. 2 on the Freaks List after he vertical jumped 32 inches; broad jumped 9-3; squatted 815, power cleaned 405 and benched 535: www.nytimes.com/athletic/652...
Cincy WR Jeff Caldwell, who began his career at D2 Lindenwood, had a remarkable Combine. At 6-5, 216, he ran a 4.31 40 with a 1.48 10; verticaled 42 inches and broad jumped 11-2. Last year he broad jumped 11-9. He also measured an inch TALLER at the combine: www.nytimes.com/athletic/706...
You're right. I left off the word began... It's still early here on the West Coast. Thanks, Scott
Was told Arkansas RB Mike Washington Jr would really shine at the Combine. He just ran a blistering 4.33 40 at 223 pounds. Was No. 20 on our Combine Freaks List:
www.nytimes.com/athletic/706...
Had OU safety Robert Spears-Jennings No. 82 on the Freaks List. Was told his max acceleration was 12.8 mph (measuring his ability in one second to see how fast he can sprint from a stop). Hard for me to quantify related to other dudes. He ran a 4.32 40 yesterday. www.nytimes.com/athletic/652...
Vandy TE Eli Stowers a former Texas HS high jump champ is having a remarkable day. First he broad jumped 11-3. Then he just vertical jumped a ridiculous 45 1/2 inches. He’d broad jumped 11-3 last offseason but his vertical improved from 39. www.nytimes.com/athletic/706...
Oregon DB Dillon Thieneman, No. 32 on our Combine Freaks List, was expected to test exceptionally well, and that exactly what he’s doing today his vert was 41 inches, broad jumped 10-5 and just ran a 4.37 40. www.nytimes.com/athletic/706...
Penn State DT Zane Durant had, as expected, a very impressive performance at Friday’s Combine, running a 4.75 40 with a 1.66-second 10 to go with a 33.5-inch vertical at 290 pounds. He was No. 5 on our Combine Freaks List. Here’s who else you need to watch:
www.nytimes.com/athletic/706...
Last off-season, Ohio State LB Sonny Styles broad jumped 11-0 and verticaled 40 inches, while measuring 6-4, 243. At the Combine Friday, Styles put on an amazing show. He jumped 43.5 inches and went 11-2 in the broad jump to go with a 4.46 40. www.nytimes.com/athletic/706...
Oklahoma DT Gracen Halton No. 34 on our Combine Freaks List just vertical jumped 36.5 inches at 293 lbs. Wow. www.nytimes.com/athletic/706...

Hi... He reminds you of Johnny Football?!? He's almost the polar opposite of Johnny Football. You can say Mendoza won't live up to the lofty draft projection, and you certainly could end up being right but he's not like Manziel at all.
Team USA didn’t have Canada’s three generational stars, but it had more versatile forwards, a stronger blue line — and maybe most importantly, the better goalie.
While Jack Hughes will go down as an American legend for his game-winner, it was Connor Hellebuyck’s saves that kept the U.S. in it.

Duke-Michigan living up to the hype. Love it.
Some great lead-up there by the NBC announcers talking about Patrick Kane and then 20 seconds later, Jack Hughes does that.
