Our findings call for integrative frameworks of biodiversity: within FD & PD, dimensions can respond differently to drivers, and drivers of diversity dimensions are not always congruent across taxa (ex: strong influence of present climate on birds' functional diversity).

Our results place current climate change in context: areas that are climatically stable today are more likely to retain high FD & PD in the future, highlighting their importance for conservation strategies aimed at resilience under increasing climatic variabilityπ―

Past temperature stability since the Last Glacial Maximum strongly shaped FD & PD , with unstable past climates reducing diversity. Herbivory & present climate had secondary, taxon-specific effects while fire and land use played minor roles at our study grain

We integrated three dimensions of diversity for functional and phylogenetic diversity/ considering richness (how much?), dispersion (how different?) and originality (how unique?), and study five key taxa of Mediterranean forests π³π¦π¦π¦π¦

We considered a set of >50 drivers, linked to past climate stability, present habitat, disturbances, past & present land use. We used random forests to assess the importance of broad categories of drivers & understand the impact of individual drivers on functional & phylogenetic diversity.

We ran a huge experiment to find out how ecological context favours camouflage and warning colouration as antipredator strategies. 1/6
