I heard someone (I would like to believe was a member of the Ohio Players) talk about that reality specifically and EVERYTHING clicked. Them boys grew up middle-ish class. You started to see Black bands fall off when more and more factories and plants closed.
Music is suffering because there are minimal manufacturing jobs. There. I said it. Instruments and gear are expensive. So are lessons and gigs and having practice spaces. There’s a reason funk was dominated by Ohio bands and why Detroit, Chicago, LA and NYC have cultural strongholds.
I compared them when Chris can out because Confessions was fresh and Say Goodbye was Burn for the Teenage Soul
