XLR is better in the sense that it's more "customizable" as you don't have to contend with the interface that's built in the USB, but it also means it has more faff since you need more equipment.

The MV7 by itself is a fine microphone though, so the mic itself shouldn't be the issue unless defect.

IIRC the MV7 also supports USB, so maybe try it in USB mode as well to see the difference? From what I'm looking up, people seem to say the XLR connection in this mic is somehow worse than the USB one?

Hmm... the MV7 is a bit of a quiet mic, so I would check the gain staging on it to see if the gain is set properly on the interface first. And also make sure you don't have phantom power turned on by accident.

It's kinda on the threshold of quiet (kinda like my SM57) but it *should* work.

Usually whenever someone mentions having expensive recording equipment and bad quality recordings, my first question is if you have a microphone like an SM7B or MV7 that require a Cloudlifter or other booster to raise volume (consumer interfaces don't have enough juice to drive them).
