#FossilFriday I know today is not Friday but I can't wait to share it.
Holotype of the "Shanshanosaurus huoyanshanensis", which is now a synonym of Tarbosaurus bataar.
Photographed in Shanghai natural history museum by me.
Noted the subcutaneous flange of the maxilla.
The very difference between Spinosaurus aegyptiacus and mirabilis is the chin process protruding beyond 1st dentary alveoli or not.
Finally we have Spinosaurus mirabilis Sereno et al. 2026 here

One day I shall return and complete this one -.-
Some more pics. Paint job was done by wnbb. It will be available in 1/35 and 1/18 scales.
Had the pleasure of making a sculpture of Sue the Tyrannosaurus rex for SHOWANNA Studio. 🦖
Pretty pleased with how this one turned out, I got to nerd out on all of her unique pathologies. The old girl lived a hard life!
two postschizotherium rest on the bank of a river, while a third in the water bares their teeth
the skull material from postschizotherium described in 2025; the eye sockets are placed high on the skull, similar to hippos and other semiaquatic animals
happy #fossilfriday! this is postschizotherium, a rather strange hyrax that lived in the pliocene and early pleistocene of russia and china. weighing over half a tonne, recently described skull material indicates that it likely had an amphibious lifestyle like a hippo

Adding to the collection of theropods with weird hands described this year.
Duonychus, Mexidracon and the already posted Manipulonyx.

I am very honored to have been entrusted by Shi Yutai to participate in this work, illustrating this unique and ancient animal. It has been a highly rewarding learning experience.
A group of Dinanomodon guoi is feeding beside a stream. Nearby, two Moschowhaitsia lidaqingi, large carnivorous therocephalians, are looking for an opportunity to hunt. Across the stream, a pair of Turfanodon jiufengensis are resting.
Since Dinanomodon guoi is only known from a compele cranium, I using Turfanodon jiufengensis (a close-reletive taxon of Dinanomodon) as a reference to reconstruct its postcranial region.
Officially announced that I will not update my X account.
This is an animal I'd really love to see if we get another season of Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age. It's the perfect blend of familiar and bizarre!
Getting excited... for #FossilFriday ! Our Morrison Ankylosaur monograph may be published online in a week. Hopefully, this will lead to a fix in many ankylosaur phylogenies. A dozen known Morrison ankylosaur sites spanning 4 states. Who would have think it 35 years ago?

Witmer with the holotype skull of Nanotyrannus (CMNH 7541) for CT scanning (June 2023). I had this same skull on loan in my Ohio University lab for study and CT scanning for over a year and, as far as I can tell, never appeared in a photo with it. I didn't my chance this time!
We'll close out this #FossilFriday with the obvious choice of Nanotyrannus. I couldn't share this CT scanning session at the time (June 2023) but can now. @jgn-paleo.bsky.social brought the holotype Cleveland skull he had on loan, and CMNH VP curator Caitlin Colleary & I joined in the fun!
Making some fresh models to sharpen my 3D skills, and what better subject to do that than our lovely brazilian Pleistocene megafauna?

Digital Drawing. A large dicynodont (Ischigualastia) is knelt on the ground, struggling to lift itself up with its forelimbs. A gash is visible on its thigh. Three small dinosaurs (Eodromaeus) observe from nearby. The sky is a pale blue - the sun has already moved below the horizon.
