The linked story is:

"Climate Cooperation Will Suffer as the U.S. Disengages From International Commitments"

Lede: "Experts say pulling the U.S. out of more than 60 global organizations will weaken international governance structures and lead to further fragmentation of global power."

"If you rule out the fast phase out of #fossilfuels, then you have to either remove carbon from the atmosphere, or reflect sunlight. Who decided that #geoengineering was more feasible than rapid fossil fuel phase out?" @jamesgdyke.info

β€œThis means the actual solution – fossil fuel phase out - which has been staring us in the face all this time, still represents the surest route to safety.”

National Emergency Briefing A 45-min film centred around the National Emergency Briefing. Taking the message across the UK with the frank facts, but also the huge opportunity if Government steps up and leads a WW2-scale response...

Thank you to the nearly 1,000 people who've already registered to host a screening of the People's Emergency Briefing film in their community, and the many others who've done the same via our partners - and to the many organisations planning screenings.

Incredible momentum building. #NEB2025

The box shows a summary that I've done of actions to be taken in high emission countries, suggested by the NEB scientists in their Nov 2025 talks, together with the article by @kevinclimate.bsky.social‬ at www.sgr.org.uk/resources/ge... (hoping that I've not misquoted anybody).

Thanks, @pauleric70.bsky.social , for sharing this kind reminder.

Regarding the questions whether data centres may be denied grid access (or worse, displace industrial electrification): The Danish national TSO has a 63GW backlog of connection requests (vs a current total 7GW demand) and is now asking the government for permission to say no to more data centres.

They’re looking for ways to make extraction and polluting easier. Not good.

Your posts describe well the deadly orbit we've been in for the past several decades.

My point is: Any hope of breaking out of that orbit depends on society's climate-thought-leaders β€” mainly scientists β€” leading us to the needed policy specifics (while being open-eyed to necessary sacrifices).

"Yes we can avoid further dangerous climate change, we can stop the destruction of nature, we can begin the transformation of our societies so that they live in balance with the Earth system"

Great post as always. That we haven't prevented it doesn't make it unpreventable

Yes we can no we didn’t Those who cannot learn from past failures are condemned to repeat them (apologies to Santayana)

.@jamesgdyke.info's blog of today logically narrows down that climate policy payload's necessary nature. www.technosphere.earth/yes-we-can-n...

What's needed next is for scientists like you two (who've well-popularized the Gordian dilemma) to OUTLINE specifics of that payload. Policy engineering.

We need to be fighting on multiple fronts.

The fascist strategy is to focus us on just the one, and distract us from the others.

The inevitable outcome of the strategic communications plan of immediately forgetting why we're doing any of this and pretending to be energy affordability campaigners instead.

Climate will be back, but for now: support the real ones who haven't given up focus and fight. There are many of them ✊🏽

We are down to the big crunch, and need to do all of that at the same time.

Is not the problem adequately acknowledged quantitatively already? Is not the timeline, really, getting off of fossil fuels in 10-15 years, and deeply cutting other GHGs β€” while coping with that fairly? Is delay an option?

05.03.2026 18:24 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

That's a fair point, too. I didn't consider the particular audience.

I have followed your work closely since 2005. As the circumstances have worsened, my view has changed from "Right on," to "Right on, and WHAT?"

Your budget work has been a great booster stage. IMO it needs a policy payload, too.

05.03.2026 18:03 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

That's exactly my concern. Yes, we need to acknowledge the failure. But unless prescriptive policy recommendations also get made that go beyond (e.g.) "AI and more electric cars," we're doomed to repeat failures of the past three decades.

05.03.2026 17:49 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

On #5, I was looking for some prescriptive policy recommendations, not this vagueness: "A credible strategy must begin with an honest acknowledgment that current policies fall far short of anything even approaching the Paris commitments."

Thirty years of glacier grounding line retreat in Antarctica | PNAS The Grounding Line (GL)—the transition from ice grounded on the continent and ice afloat in the ocean—is a sensitive indicator of glacier stability...

A multiple-satellite study of Antarctica’s grounding line area show a loss of 12,820 km2 over the last 30 years. Grounding lines are the contact points where continental ice sheets anchor to the seabed, slowing their flow into the oceans.

Carnival ships account for close to half of Seattle's 330 scheduled cruise ship calls for the 2026 season (April - Oct.). Princess, Holland America & Carnival Cruise Lines all come here.

Unlike previous oil wars renewable energy is now available at scale. It's distributed, diversified and resilient. And solar panels don’t blow up; once they're in place you don’t need ships to constantly feed them to make energy.

The sun is looking like a pretty stable energy source right now.
