Regarding the questions whether data centres may be denied grid access (or worse, displace industrial electrification): The Danish national TSO has a 63GW backlog of connection requests (vs a current total 7GW demand) and is now asking the government for permission to say no to more data centres.

Your posts describe well the deadly orbit we've been in for the past several decades.

My point is: Any hope of breaking out of that orbit depends on society's climate-thought-leaders — mainly scientists — leading us to the needed policy specifics (while being open-eyed to necessary sacrifices).

What's needed next is for scientists like you two (who've well-popularized the Gordian dilemma) to OUTLINE specifics of that payload. Policy engineering.

We need to be fighting on multiple fronts.

The fascist strategy is to focus us on just the one, and distract us from the others.

The inevitable outcome of the strategic communications plan of immediately forgetting why we're doing any of this and pretending to be energy affordability campaigners instead.

Is not the problem adequately acknowledged quantitatively already? Is not the timeline, really, getting off of fossil fuels in 10-15 years, and deeply cutting other GHGs — while coping with that fairly? Is delay an option?

Your budget work has been a great booster stage. IMO it needs a policy payload, too.

That's exactly my concern. Yes, we need to acknowledge the failure. But unless prescriptive policy recommendations also get made that go beyond (e.g.) "AI and more electric cars," we're doomed to repeat failures of the past three decades.

On #5, I was looking for some prescriptive policy recommendations, not this vagueness: "A credible strategy must begin with an honest acknowledgment that current policies fall far short of anything even approaching the Paris commitments."
