They're rerunning the Salzburg Carmen from the late 1960s on Arte and it's awe-inspiring what kinds of hairspray technology were apparently available in late 19th century Seville

Just realized I'm developing parasocial relationships with multiple Antiques Roadshow appraisers
The captions say wizened, so I'm not sure. And I think wizened hands makes sense in context - they are being caught by the hands of those who came before them.
what is it with people on severance mispronouncing wizened
Trans people were on the front lines at Stonewall. Don't let Trump, Musk, or a bunch of Vichy gays and TERFs tell you otherwise. My latest for Slate on what happened to the Stonewall monument website, why autocrats always destroy history, and where it can lead slate.com/news-and-pol...
You're wrong about most of this. Marsha was uptown when the riots started; Sylvia was in Washington Square Park, near Stonewall, where a lot of street queers lived. Both were at the Riots later in the evening, and on the many days they lasted after - Stonewall wasn't a one day event
Gay liberation implies liberation for all people. We are not only demanding our rights, affirming our pride, we are tell all people to do the same, to discover themselves, to celebrate their own unique beauty and the sense of their shared humanity. Gay liberation demands that everyone have the right to their own lives, their own feels, their choice of sexual partners, and their own style of expression, behavior and dress. It was trransvestites who created the gay liberation movement during the Stonewall riots. If now, as it seems, we are in danger of forgetting what the movement is all about, perhaps we should turn to transvestites to remind us.

They also love to say that it's all just modern day trans revisionism -- to which I like to point them to Ted Rauch's 1971 article "Transvestism and Gay Liberation" from Gay Activist. bsky.app/profile/lgbt...
Stupid TERFs always try to say that Marsha wasn't a trans woman & Stonewall was only gay men. Usually they're so dumb they don't even know Stonewall lasted many days. So here's a point by point refutation of their stupidity, feel free to share! bsky.app/profile/hugh...
why yes, my phone does automatically connect to the Bluetooth in my girlfriend's ex's Subaru (which she sometimes borrows)
Gonna go get a PhD in Musicology just so I can finally understand why exactly it is that the harmonies in Linger by the Cranberries go as hard as they do
My family didn't want to post about the loss of our dog yesterday because they thought it was super selfish with everything else going on (they're not on this site, so my posting here is irrelevant)
but I guess I just want people to know it's important to honor small grief amidst the big grief
The next time this administration claims to care about antisemitism, I hope we remember not only Elon's address to the AfD but also www.nytimes.com/live/2025/01...
Not bad, all things considered. Sorry, I have notifications for this app turned off due to all the spam follows and don't open it very often 🤦🏻. How are you doing these days?

Huh, interesting - I had to manually add Yiddish to mine even though it's mentioned in my profile. It did somehow know German though, possibly bc I use a bilingual keyboard on my phone?

Many cultures around the world have a legend of a Bon Jovi-like figure.
Germans know him as Guten Joven;
in Brazil he is Bom João
I spent a lot of yesterday wanting to pet my cat sitting near to the couch who was actually some tape on a cardboard box flapping up and down because of a ceiling fan
