Needless to say... I'm in love with this game. β€οΈ
I read 8 books in February, WILD. Definitely had a couple of bangers in there! π
As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. Itβs often said you never know when youβre living through history, so let me assure you: thatβs whatβs happening now.
I am SO ready for this game. Currently, reading through the books after having loved the TV shows for years, and... Chef's kiss. Looking forward to this!

Uh... A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 3????? π€―
I can't believe how phenomenal Babel is. The writing, the characters, the subtle magic and how it intertwines with incredibly well-researched history, not to mention its dissection of colonialism and imperialism.
Unfortunately, still incredibly relevant these days...

BABEL ON CALLISTO Querying February 2025 @saraduranauthor sara.duran@bsky.social COMPS The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler, labeled βisolated research stationβ and βphilosophical alien threat.β The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw, labeled βqueer, visceral horrorβ and βlove as a consuming force.β The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei, labeled βpsychological unravelingβ and βfracture under mission pressure.β PITCH βOn a lunar prison outpost, two exiled men uncover a cosmic presence waking beneath the ice. As their uneasy alliance against it twists into something tender and terrifying, they are confronted with the one thing they never expected to find on a dead moon: a reason to live. But the ice is thinning.β TASTE βNeither spoke as Elias bypassed the security protocol on the keypad. The metal hatch shuddered as it unlocked, slinking back to hidden panels in the wall. They cleared the first few floors with carrion precision, methodical as Dermestidae stripping a carcass to bone. In Eliasβs imagination, the gore thinned into something vasterβthe time-lapse unraveling the ruin from above. Wordlessly, corridors were scoured to nothing as he and Jack moved like insects beneath an overhead lens. As the hours dissolved, their work became abstracted into a cold anatomy, intimacy pared away as cleanly as flesh from the frame until only the architecture of survival remained. When Jack hacked into the collapsed doorway to the next stairwell, Elias marveled at the contradiction: how those same brutal hands had, only that morning, traced him with the delicacy of a scalpel.β

In the centre is the logo for 'Accursed Moon Soul', the pictures surrounding the logo from left to right - a ship wheel, someone falling into water, a woman holding a glowing orb, a ship sailing through fog, a woman in a row boat, a manta ray, the same woman from the third image bloodied and holding a sword, a hand touching their reflection, and the silhouette of a woman with red eyes
'Evelyn Farrow is an infamous ex-pirate who is haunted by the night she murdered her crew. The same night she was branded with a strange mark when she wanted no part in her crewβs dealings with a devil. Determined to put her pirate days behind her and find a cure, Evelyn has lied her way into a new crew of faithful and upbeat treasure hunters. Whilst chasing a rumour of a hidden artefact, the mark finally awakens, and an otherworldly voice makes home in her mind. An alteration to the strings of fate has bound them together, and in order for this entity to reignite a centuries-long grudge with the gods, it needs Evelyn to obtain this artefact by any means necessary. Unending nightmares of that fateful massacre serve as a reminder of what sheβs running from, and as the mystery surrounding the mark and this entity unfold, her lies begin to unravel. Freedom lies in finding the courage to face her past, or she risks losing the crew that would sail to the end of the world to save her.'
Graphic to display comp titles and tropes, the three include The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty, One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig, and Baldurs Gate 3 by Larian Studios. The text reads from left to right: Dark pasts, pirate/sailor fmc, psychological horror, found family, 'own voices' mental health rep, queer cast, alter-ego, high stakes treasure hunt, battling internal monsters, 'bantering misfits' group dynamic
On top of a dark underwater background, the text reads: 'Waves crashed against the lone pier as the sea waited to drown me. I had no recollection of how I got there, teetering like I was on the edge of a great precipice. The dense fog and heavy stench of brine disorientated what little of myself I still had some control over. I stared out into the nothingness. The nothingness stared back. This was how the Manta Ray and her terrible legacy would finally come to an end. Iβd had one tattooed across my back, in commemoration of the title. Its white markings were intentionally skeletal, with a wingspan that wrapped around my shoulder blades. Now, the ink prickled, wanting to remove itself as much as I was desperate for it to. The name had meant something once, before it became an ironic joke. The creatureβs alternative name of devilfish was a dull ringing in my ears. Every waking moment, the reason why haunted me. Iβd had enough. - Chapter 1'
