NEW OPINION PIECE OUT NOW
Daniel Šitera and myself take a different look at the "deregulatory turn" in EU digital policy. Building on our academic research, we argue that the key enabling role of smaller EU states have been largely overlooked.

NEW ARTICLE - DIGITAL SOVEREIGNTY AND CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE
Very excited to share my most recent article, written together with Linda Monsees. It is an introduction to a special issue on the position of CEE states in EU's digital sovereignty agenda.

Dostat tzv. Standardní grant od GAČR - tedy nejobvyklejší způsob národní podpory vědy - je dnes historicky nejtěžší. "S ohledem na rozpočtová omezení"...
Ukrainian citizen suspected to be the orchestrator of the blowing-up of the NordStream pipelines was extradicted to Germany. This will surely be a very interesting and extremely sensitive process.

Is lack of a common definition of #digitalsovereignty the core of EU's issues with projects like Gaia-X, per @politico.eu? Not really. Let's not obsess about definitions and pay attention to power relations behind them (as argued in an article we published recently). www.politico.eu/article/anat...

@ims.fsv.cuni.cz @fsv.unikarlova.cuni.cz www.ceskenoviny.cz/ukrinform/ce...
My short commentary on the implication of the Czech election for Ukraine.
In short: not a good result for Kyiv, but expect pragmatic, self-interested policies, rather than a pro-Russian turn. Babiš is a transactional politician, will do what serves him best.

Ja, na zacatku kvetna. #toldya
Berlin friends, in two weeks time, I will be talking about the results of the Czech election in taz-Kantine. Tickets are free, but registration is required. Non-Berlin friends, there will be a livestream, too.

Making sure my memes are on trend for the new academic year
Based on interviews with Czech officials (as well as public sources), we show that adaptation often happens through "quiet" bureaucratic ways out of the sight of the public eye - if politicians don't step in. 2/2

NEW ARTICLE OUT IN OPEN ACCESS
How do small and peripheral states respond to big EU initiatives? In a new article by Daniel Šitera and myself, we look at Czechia's reluctant and gradual warming to the idea of "EU digital sovereignty". 1/2
Civilians cannot be targets. Never.
The images from Gaza are unbearable.
The EU reiterates its call for the free, safe and swift flow of humanitarian aid.
And for the full respect of international and humanitarian law.

Frank's work is a must-read for anyone interested in German foreign policy.
There's no place for institutional finance in rental markets. It's a predatory extraction machine that robs the poor and middle.
But one thing I'd add: we should stop calling these people "investors". They don't "invest". They buy up and milk existing assets. 🧵

If Germany is serious about two-state solution mantra now is time to align /w major EU partners incl. France to consider official recognition of Palestinian state.Yes, mostly symbolic. Yes, with drawbacks. But brazen expansion of settlements plus Gaza ethnic cleansing plans does require firm answer.
