Ros took an 8 year career break to be a full-time parent. Offered the chance to return by doing a PhD, she wasn't sure at first, but decided to go for it:

"One of my earliest memories is my dad fixing a TV... That inspired me, I thought, I want to do that. I want to see questions, answer them, and find solutions," Irene says.

Dan hated school and left after GCSEs without the grades for an apprenticeship. But he was ambitious: the future was in his hands. He now oversees 100 engineers and a £1bn portfolio!
