Boxing hares in Dumfriesshire.

This "mad March hare" behaviour is often assumed to be males fighting, but is actually part of the mating ritual between males and females.

Yesterday was tidying up our coppice mess, processing wood, even making a few planks.

Today was planting hedgerows on South Molton, a site @protect.earth have planted loads of trees and hedgerows at before. Got about 1km more hedge in and there’s more to go tomorrow! #Biodiversity #Hedgerows

I was sitting by our pond yesterday, and heard a faint repeating sound/call which I don’t recognise. Please can anyone tell me what it might be? It could of course be made by a human, but I felt it more likely to be a creature of some sort. Very faint, so volume up! Thank you πŸ™

The park is known for the Arctic bird migration. It would be nice to visit for sea trout fishing and birding.

Closer view of the table with the 12 minerals and a card that says "Who's that mineral?! Can you match the labels with the specimens?". The minerals featured are graphite, gold in quartz, quartz prism, malachite, labradorite, petalite, copper, cassiterite, opal, calcite, agate and talc.

Last night was the first time I've ever done an after hours event at the NHM (teenagers got to learn about a wide range of museum careers). I made a mineral matching game and the only person who managed to get all 12 right was a Minecraft player. Love that!

As I work on this icon, with rain drumming on the studio roof, I think about all the hedgehogs curled up asleep in their leafy beds. If you’re tidying up your garden please check carefully in all the places they might be before using the dreaded strimmer.

NEW: Six out of ten new EU city buses were zero-emission in 2025, led by four countries where 100% of new buses were battery-electric: Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia & Latvia.

That’s a huge leap from just 12% in 2019 when the EU adopted the Clean Vehicles Directive.

This is so great. Over the last 12 years beavers have gone from something that governments wanted rid of and few of the NGOs cared about, to being recognised as a native species right across GB. Well done to all those who campaigned to get us here.
