Okay, I may need to hear this story someday
Okay, I may need to hear this story someday
I did better than I expected for someone who once told his spouse βthey look the same to meβ only to have her hold the two paint chips next to each other and they were definitely different
Cover of Flightless: Riff is front and center. He is a man with "glidesheaths"--flaps of skin extending from his arms and sides to help him glide. And he's showing off, gliding through the air. He wears a red hood and brown tattered clothing with patches galore and a knife in his boot. In the background is a beautiful sunset sky and a few "Divians" or flyers--people with wings. Below him is the City of Quilia, a town with red roofs and towers abutting a bay of blue water.
BEHOLD! The absolutely stunning cover art for Flightless, my solo-written debut, is here. I'm so excited to share my social justice fantasy heist with y'all. @sumrow.bsky.social absolutely killed the artwork. Some details I particularly love are in the comments.
Interesting perspective to read
Over a background image of the Sandia Mountains, the words, "Sandia Starforgers Writers Retreat and Workshop. April 24-27, 2026. Albuquerque, NM. Starforgers.com." Then, there are photos of the instructors and pitch guests with their names: Charlie Jane Anders, Mary Robinette Kowal, dave ring, Geoff Habiger, Marie Parks, Darling Heart, Alexandria Valentine.
I'm going to be giving critiques on 5,000-word submissions and teaching a class on mining your personal history at the third annual Sandia Starforgers retreat for SFF writers. All topics by instructors are now listed on the event page. Only 3 tickets left, and doors close March 10. starforgers.com
Fellow writers: I am deeply saddened to share that if we want the rewards of having written, we must submit to the mortifying ordeal of writing
No new pictures.
Where are you at mentally?
If you're a writer, wondering why you should bother writing with the world on fire. It feels like it's not important, I need you to understand that it is.
Even if it is just because it keeps you moving forward? Even if it only brings YOU joy, that gives you energy to fight & survive.
Iβve attended the past two years and of course am going back for a thirdβ¦ lots of lovely writing discussions among a classroom-sized group of writers, and other wonderful discussion, and sometimes I even get some writing done
Sparks of joy?
Bits of blessings?
Kindling of warmth held against a vast backdrop of crippling despair? (Okay maybe not that one)
A good thread to review and remember

That looks like the model I got a couple years ago on the recommendation of a coworker, who reported her lighting-obsessed husband bought it for her. The only complaint Iβve had so far (not quite tall enough to go over my computer monitor) was solved with a scrap of 1x2 atop the desk
Iβve liked quite a few (and havenβt seen Stranger Things S5 yet) but for me the best in recent memory was The Good Place. I recall it got a mixed reception but I thought it was great
This is your energy for 2026

I donβt know, Iβve never met a cobol programmer, though (true story) I was mistaken for one once while I was still in college
In my experience if you know other programming languages, Python is absurdly easy to learn for at least the basicsβ¦ but some people apparently canβt get over syntactically significant whitespace
This was fun to write.
Also, shockingly hard to write.
Thanks for using your platform to elevate other writers, @scalzi.com

Both covers look awesome
PUT AWAY YOUR GLAIVE, TODAY YOU WILL BATTLE SELF DOUBT. AND YOU WILL WIN.
A picture of a package of curex C-Y Cyanoacrylate Super Glue in packaging which looks highly suspiciously and dangerously like durex K-Y Jelly Personal Lubricant.
Branding is important.
βA lot of people are saying, βMaybe we like a dictator.ββ β George Washington
βYou also had some very fine people on both sides.β β John Adams
βWhy are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" β Alexander Hamilton
The first was great (and I still have a related sticker on my water bottle). Looking forward to the next one
Gonna do the promo thing for a minute here...
...because @marieparks.bsky.social and I FINALLY have a release date for Undeniable, the sequel to Unrelenting.
If you like found families, ancient magic in a modern setting, and ace main characters, save the dates. π
Congratulations and well deserved on both
A photo of an old magazine page showing a diagram of an FTM type Transbrother and an MTF type Transsister, and a picture of a 2N3904 and 2N3906 semiconductor package with 3 legs. Below is a diagram, with the Base taking in T and removing E for the Transbrother, and taking in E and removing T for the Transsister.
Welp, time to blowup my notifs!
Thesis: Worldcon COULD be good, but we may have to drag it there kicking and screaming.
Iβve read each of Jenny Lawsonβs previous books and they are all great
I knew about molten salt, heat stored in rocks, and a couple of hydraulic options, but this is cool because it looks pretty straightforward to create, easy to explain to others, and might be relatively inexpensive
