Wonderful to see Oct's full Harvest Moon during Chuseok, Korean Thanksgiving/autumn harvest celebrations (Oct 6-8, 2025). My family and I practice gratitude, honour our ancestors, and engage in self-reflection. ππ #Chuseok #KoreanHeritage #HarvestMoon #Korean #KoreanCanadian
Started teaching a new Intro to Novel Writing class at @uoftscs.bsky.social. We explored what a strong opening paragraph might look like. One of my favourites is from Miriam Toews' A Complicated Kindness. It immediately draws readers in with its tone & narrative voice. #WritingFiction

5-star review of Apparitions saying βThis is not just a book. It''s an eye opening journey into the internal thoughts and experiences of the main character who is non hearing. He is deaf and has been Severely Abused. The author does an excellent job guiding the reader through the eyes and hands of the main character. The writing flows like a poem. The book will make you sad, happy, shameful (for not knowing more about this community), hopeful, afraid. No hearing person could write a book like this. Indeed the author is non hearing (I looked it up) There are hard parts in the book. Severe abuse, sex etc., but there is a strong story of growth as well. The book prize people must have been sleeping when this book was published.β
Review of APPARITIONS. I wholeheartedly agree, especially with that last bit. A lot of people have slept on this book, dismissing it because itβs written by a Deaf author and features Deaf characters. Iβll keep promoting it until it gets the attention it deserves.
