FULLY FUNDED PHDs IN POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY
I'm looking for *two* PhD students to join my ERC project on refugee-led approaches to displacement justice. The positions are funded for four years, and you get to join our lovely community in Bristol. Please share widely!

we appear to have four competing fascist movements jockeying for control: blood & soil nazism under miller and hegseth, darwinian ecofascism from rfk, technofascism under vance and musk, and one Big Wet Hitler who understands the true animating core of the american volk is a deep love for shopping
At the insistence of the publishing companies, the UK govt prevents residents from accessing Sci-Hub, a free site containing academic literature, otherwise paywalled. Now they plan to let AI companies use any music, writing, art… to train their crappy programmes WITHOUT PAYING US A PENNY. Thieves!
This is not just cursed, its monstrous. The digital resurrection of a historian who died in January of this year, all so Grammarly can get some more clicks and engagement from students and/or scholars and/or others.
It feels so wrong on so many levels, these ghosts enslaved to AI forever
One of my favourite sides of politics/media.
Reform win a seat: The true Volk have spoken and we all must listen.
Greens win a seat: Early reports that Muslims may have ‘voted’ (an ancient Islamic practice designed to steal elections). How severely should the franchise be limited in response?
Gutted I can't make this, such a needed conversation that I've been thinking about so much lately!
London folks - a must!
Really appreciate you putting all these posts together - I won't pretend I understand it all but it gives me hope knowing that these things are in the pipeline.
Seems worth noting that ChatGPT Health failed to identify medical emergencies more than half the time in a recent study. The company that made that product just signed a deal with the "Department of War" and said trust us, it's all very safe and ethical.
This dishonest letter by Starmer does three things;
1. Given his personal unpopularity it is a great advert for the Greens
2. It shows what the main anti-Green propaganda focuses will be
3. It is an admission that Labour is flailing and that the Green Party is winning. You can smell the fear.
I continue to be fascinated by the phenomenon whereby an expert engages with any of the LLMs on their field of expertise and is instantly horrified by the wrong answers, and then goes on to use it for things they are not experts in as though it won’t be just as bad for those.
No I think you're absolutely right. It's a dog whistle and not particularly subtle. He's saying "They appealed to those sinister Muslims but they also want to legalise drugs and they can't have it both ways".
@greenpartyhan.bsky.social
a sombre morning for british columnists as they move their "The electorate has spoken, we must listen" articles to the recycling bin and upload their "the greens victory shows just how far the west has fallen" articles instead
I'll be honest I've never tried it because it looks like a sensory nightmare to me! Did you have to order it/the filters from the US? Haven't found Omnimask in the UK.
Thank you! I will let you know. I only found these but the website has pretty terrible reviews: www.ypo.co.uk/product/deta... And these are the expensive ones I mentioned: mstore.co.uk/products/hai...
It seems to me that the foundational 'wrong turn' in education was the increasing rhetoric from universities themselves and their supporters that the primary value of a university education was increased earning power.
That leads pretty directly to this place we're in now.
These have been my go-to for teaching, conferencing and staff meetings for some time and I don't known how else I can manage when students and colleagues need to lip read.
If any covid-avoiding people have recommendations for FFP3 masks with windows for lip-reading I would appreciated it. The ones I usually buy seem to have been discontinued and the only alternatives I can find are really expensive, so I'm wary of buying without a recommendation.
This is the dehumanizing logic of capitalism: To see people as things with costs and uses (just like all the other things that can be bought and sold on the market).
Those who are buyers, not sellers, on the labor market, naturally cannot help but simply see people through the lens of that logic.
The entire Chagos Islands deal is being done to help the US keep its dammed military base. How much political capital is Keir Starmer willing to spend trying to save Donald Trump from himself? Especially when Trump cannot remember his stance on this from one day to the next?
Perhaps it should be The Accused Formerly Known As Prince.

I watched last night and these are three of the smartest people on the planet from whom I have learned a lot. If you listen, you'll learn too.
Eliminating gender studies courses helps to ensure that universities and other institutions will continue to protect men who benefit from the abuse of women and girls, either directly or through their connections to those who exploit girls and women for profit.

It goes to the same school as all their 'evidence' about trans people
The US sneezes, the world catches a cold.
crpl-pnk on tumblr - "hey if you’re disabled or chronically ill & have a hard time standing i want you to know that it’s ok to sit down when able bodied people wouldn’t or aren’t. not just in the context of using a wheelchair but just like. whenever. pull up a stool in front of the stove when you make mac & cheese. kneel on a chair in front of the sink when you’re washing the dishes. going outside to smoke/wait for a cab/whatever? pop a squat on the sidewalk/curb/stoop. get a shower chair. it’s not weird or shameful to minimize your pain & it’s not worth wasting spoons just because 'normal people would do it standing up'"
