Thank you! My grandfather grew up in south Philly βΊοΈ
We actually got super close to signing on the dotted line 2 weeks ago for a house in northern liberties after months of being smitten with it and the seller finally coming down in price.
But something felt off & we opted to stay put for a while
Accurate
I saw this too and I was totally on board until the destination was Wawa.
Visiting Philly from NYC? β
Taking a train to do so? β
NJT/SEPTA to save money? β
Destination isβ¦ Wawa? β
We made a hard decision 2 weeks ago, to not buy a house in a cooler, more convenient place. (Cough cough, northern liberties)
We went down there to eat before signing, after months of negotiating finally -> price, and everyone at the restaurant was white. So odd.
Weβre staging out for now. β€οΈ
β¦ any particular words or sayings. A young lady told me, in English, and then restated in Arabic. I smiled and thanked her for sharing. Then let them get back to it.
A few moments later, one of them brought us a plate with dates and said they wanted us to join them breaking fast and I π₯Ήπ₯Ήπ₯Ήπ₯Ή
β¦ itβs Ramadan. I only remembered because I heard one staff member ask another if she was fasting.
I asked βwait, is it Ramadan?β
They said yes.
I said βI hope you have a meaningful fastβ
We were waiting for our food when the staff paused to break their fast.
I asked if there wereβ¦
Shout out to northeast Philadelphiaβs tremendous diversity.
We, a clueless white family, decided to try a newish Middle Eastern restaurant for dinner last night. We arrived at 5:30 and it was completely dead. Not a dine in customer to be seen.
It took me 3 business days to remember thatβ¦
Yes please, if even just to help enforce the non-criminal but annoying behavior too many people exhibit (smoking, listening to phones out loud)
The old Schuykill Falls, leftover from when Westrum developed Falls Ridge. Nice.
Me, eavesdropping the first time my kid FaceTimed with a bunch of classmates:
I canβt believe this many parents let their kids play online games together.
Also me: no Iβm not turning off my Lil Kim music. I was sitting here first.
Philly still has some affordability. And first time buyer assistance programs.
The lent I was in 8th grade at a catholic school I gave up Catholicism.
It stuck.
It also takes away from how insanly fast 90mph is when hurdling your body down a mountain on skis.
I donβt even like Pennsylvania Medium trails because I go too fast* to feel safe.
(18.5mph perhaps?)
My purple Scion tC. I loved that car something fierce. And Iβm 100% convinced it was siblings with the original Model S. Faux hatch, sleek profile. The works. (Google search)
My husbandβs 4 door Wrangler was mango tango. (Actual photo)
Why are humans so boring?!?!
Iβve owned 4 electric vehicles. Two were red, one was blue, and one (which I regret) is white.
The two latest ICE cars I owned before I went electric were bright blue and deep reddish purple.
My hubbyβs last ice was a sparkly orange called Mango Tango.
This.
And youβve ever had a loved one tangled up in the criminal justice system, I highly recommend the documentary Thirteenth.
Wait how did I not know about this?
Cool!

I havenβt driven an Equinox EV but really like the styling.
Now if only GM could stop producing trucks and SUVs with pedestrian killing grille heights, Iβd start paying them more attention.
Thatβs what Iβm thinking. I grew up in a small row home in a crappy neighborhood but I remember riding my bike all up and down creation.
My kid has a huge basement play area, back yard, pool but needs us as constant playmates bc no kids anywhere
In a very cool neighborhood with a community and children and like minded people.
Less living space. Less outdoor space. Far fewer responsibilities as a result. Tiny bedroom for the kiddo. No comfy (huge!) basement. Saying bye to the pool table. Yard. Pool.
Saying hi to everything in waking dist
Dear public, I need some help.
How do we decide whether to move?
Now: the most perfect home for our family there ever was in an awful location with no community, no kids for kids to play with. Paid off. Takes 30+ minutes of gridlock to get anywhere.
Change: starting over with a mortgageβ¦
Did I just screenshot this masterpiece of a quote to send to my buddy who lives in Austin with no caption or context? Yup
Will he remember making us watch the entire series one of the times i visited him there? Yup
Last night I saw my fav band at the Fillmore. They did a 2 night deal (TLA was Friday) just like they did 20-something years ago in December. That time I went to both; it was troc and TLA.
Timely memories
I did not forget. Not for one second.
My only child had a stomach ache yesterday - rare for him - and actually nearly cried about it.
I told him that when I was pregnant I felt that way daily for months and would wail on the couch about hating life. Encouraged him to let it all out.
Along the same lines: changing a tire. Most cars donβt come with spares anymore, and itβs not worth carrying the tools around when AAA can do it.
The better skill and toolset is tire plugging. Learn that!
Cool!
This is the exact battery required for the old Tamagotchi toys

Except rather than empty nester itβs βno way in hell Iβm letting my son drive a car as a teenagerβ
So so right!
We did things backwards; the dream house in our 20s and while itβs the city, itβs a very suburb existence (landscaping, pool care.)
We donβt regret it. It set us up financially and weβve hosted many lovely gatherings.
But we want life outside the house. Community. Convenience.
