Edit: he finally used some color words 🤪
The lack of color gives his novels (the 2-3 I’ve read) a sort of clinical coolness, and that seems to be what he is going for, so maybe that is intentional
I remember some writing teacher (talking about genre fiction specifically) pressing “colors! Colors! Gotta include lots of color words!” and I clearly internalized that, also I think it’s good advice
Christopher Priest (the SF writer not the comic writer) has so little color words in his work I wonder if he’s colorblind, or am I just projecting my own expectations onto his writing?
I wasn’t alive yet but I vaguely remember that!!
What the FUCK! Good on her for adding “if you accept this, you will be an asshole”. Some jobs that’s the best you can do
It’s still got racist stuff in it. But like “Tintin and the Picaros” it maybe shows a 60something white comic artist in the 1960s trying to be vaguely aware of the times
Did you know there’s a single (AFAIK) Uncle Scrooge story, “Treasure of Marco Polo” from 1966, which ends with him repatriating the cultural treasure instead of keeping it?
(I haven’t actually read this one, it was never or rarely reprinted) duckcomicsrevue.blogspot.com/2009/04/trea...
I love amnesia one-shots (or short campaigns)! Sounds awesome!
Thanks! I’ll work on the text!
Cool!!
Yeah, I'm no fan of any kind of fundamentalists, and I can't forget Khamenei's predecessor putting out the hit on Salman Rushdie. But yes, hating Muslims and Middle Easterners is one of the most 'acceptable' racisms these last 40 years
Pretty much!
The actual scale of all the maps is intentionally vague. What I mean is that Celephais and Dylath-Leen are supposed to be 2x as big as the other maps. Ulthar would fit into 1/4 of them.
Hmm, is the text confusing? (honest question) It's supposed to be 2x as big as most of the other cities I'm drawing, except Dylath-Leen which is also huge
Thanks!! Yeah, the color is somewhere inbetween representational & symbolic, if that makes any sense
Can you imagine if the USA had the same decades-long grudge towards Vietnam that we do to Iran? If American politicians were sinking Vietnamese ships and screaming for war with Vietnam to "avenge 40,000 dead troops" the way they do for ~300 dead troops in 1980s Lebanon? Why can't we get over Iran?
Celephais, the jewel city, capital of Ooth-Nargai

Why do Discord bots self destruct in a shower of spam, while Facebook bots just lurk and take up space (or DM you for some complicated AI chat scam)?
Block them. I’m gonna
They killed 180 children and their teachers in a double-tap strike on a school. The girls were 7 to 12 years old.
Oh yeah, it's fun when you discover a translation of a manga into a non-English language you do understand! :D At one point looooong ago I dreamed of getting an Italian set of "Jojo". Now of course there's no need!
You mean the character!! XD Yes, I know what you mean. In our one long campaign with the original rules several PCs mutated into monsters as their Mental Balance lowered (the absence of this rule is why I'm not as big a fan of the new version)
Roughly speaking the two types of horror universes are 'normalcy is good, we must protect our world from being destroyed or invaded by Horrors from Outside" and 'normalcy actually sucks and we're already controlled by secret horrors'. KULT is the A++++ champion of the latter type
I'm actually not sure. I know even 15-20 years ago most of the Viz rewriters (localizers who couldn't translate) were laid off to save money. I think at most companies the editors do that directly now, which honestly makes sense, except when you hire a 'prestige' rewriter for attention for a book.
KULT is my favorite horror #ttrpg because in part because it is so political and really encourages you (in bad taste or not) to look at every world event and think "Oh yeah. THIS politician is clearly a lictor of the archon of war. THIS one is a lictor of the archon of surveillance" etc. No reason
Anyway obviously I'm far from the only person who adores manga but isn't fluent in Japanese, and I do read a little bit. But I just didn't become fully fluent and now I'll probably never do it, oh well. I still remember my first attempts at learning Japanese, to read Kazuo Umezu's "Fourteen".... 🔥
The real problem with not reading fluent Japanese isn't in the script-editing, tho: it's the acquisition & discovery. Without reading fluently, I could go to Kinokuniya and discover & appreciate manga that had good art, but I couldn't really recognize manga with bleh art but great dialogue or plot.
