Especially when we could be addressing the bigger issues that W fans have been clamoring about — roster expansion & the fact that players out of college have basically no break before jumping into W action. Those miles add up! Hate to see her (or anyone) injured, but there are SO many factors
This is BEFORE I even mention the (blatant) racial connotations associated with this “fight club” “kickboxing” league narrative … We have GOT to do better than this. Have to. Inexcusable.
We don’t say Patrick Mahomes is being “targeted” because opposing teams try to sack him, or injure him while doing so. You can criticize poor officiating without playing into these outdated, offensive archetypes.
The WNBA is undeniably a physical league, and while no one is excusing the horrifically inconsistent officiating, the base level of physicality is part of what makes the league great — real fans will tell you that. Injuries happen, and they are always unfortunate. But NOBODY is being targeted.
Curiously, found no mention of Sophie Cunningham violently throwing Jacy Sheldon to the ground and grabbing her neck unprovoked earlier this season …
Extremely disappointing to see another well-respected sports writer playing into this inaccurate & harmful narrative. Citing clips from a clickbait YT channel to imply that Jacy Sheldon was responsible for Clark’s re-injury, which clearly occurred at the end of the game, is incredibly irresponsible
