These asshole twerps with no brains or education from DOGE really did use ChatGPT to find NEH grants to terminate ILLEGALLY - ruining hundreds lives and destroying hundreds of the greatest humanities projects and partnerships of our time. Iβm overwhelmed with rage and anger all over again.
Throwing up the barriers to disagreeing better...
oh my GOD
Ronald Lacey in Blake's 7, with a big 70s coif.
Started watching Blake's 7: Killer. Who would have thought Toht from Raiders of the Lost Ark had such a magnificent head of hair.

NEW: The bad news about international-student enrollments at American colleges just got worse. An exclusive @chronicle.com analysis of just-released State Department data shows new visa issuances in the summer of 2025 dropped by more than a third. www.chronicle.com/article/the-...
Two scientists walk through a cluttered old-fashioned science laboratory. The female scientist says βAnalogue instruments! Paper records! Chalk boards! I thought you'd agreed to modernise the laboratory?β The male scientist replies βThat's what i'm so excited about: we have moved to cloud-based storage for our data!β They step out onto a balcony. She says: βPlease tell me you haven't built a library zeppelinβ This is exactly what he has done. It floats across the sky and he adds βIt's got a fax machine!β
My cartoon for this weekβs @newscientist.com

This reminds me of something Toni Morrison wrote.

A six panel comic of a man and a woman where their word balloons are actually other panels (there are no words) indicating future actions and explaining why they did what they did.
a three panel comic about SΓΈren Kierkegaard in which the text of the man reads backwards and the dog forwards "Life can only be understood backwards" and the dog "but it must be lived forwards"
It's that time in my Making comics intro course when I talk image-text relations, which gives me an excuse to share 2 favorite comics that do bewildering things that can only be done in comics! Ibn Al-Rabin's seminal Le Verbe ProphΓ©tique alongside the always brilliant @tomgauld.bsky.social. So good!
The latest Pasts Imperfect is out, focused on the closing of humanities depts. & museums. @otavano.bsky.social discusses the U. of Ottawa, @mokersel.bsky.social on the DePaul Art Museum, @meirazk.bsky.social & @vox-magica.bsky.social on shuttering religious studies depts, & Justin Vorhis on U. Iowa.
Thatβs a shame.
Iβve shared your article around to colleagues and students.
Slide that demonstrates that mental models suffer when an archaeologist just uses photogrammetry. The slide text says: Model of mental model creation during photogrammetry Relatively little interaction with complex mental processes that are key to interpretation in archaeology
Teaching Fieldwork & Digital Recording in our special topics module today. I'm still forever salty that one of the reviewers made us take this figure demonstrating the failings of photogrammetry for the creation of mental models out of our Aide Memoire paper. πΊ

Stoked to have this article see the light of day next year! Covering a large variety of examples (from AC to Elden Ring, WoW, Pokemon, & many more), @egarcmol.bsky.social and I conceptualize the interplay between inscriptions and games as a tripartite encounter: epigraphy in, of, and as games.
Thanks!!

Asking for a student: Does anyone have thoughts/advice about the CUNY or Berkeley summer intensive Greek programs? I never did any intensive language programs, and I'm not sure I know anyone who has gone through these. This student is excellent in Latin and very motivated to learn languages.
This is not just cursed, its monstrous. The digital resurrection of a historian who died in January of this year, all so Grammarly can get some more clicks and engagement from students and/or scholars and/or others.
It feels so wrong on so many levels, these ghosts enslaved to AI forever
Who is making the US unsafe for visitors?
As part of an AI committee at my university, I spent this weekend trying out Claude (Opus 4.6) for writing, and I have to say, far beyond its hallucinations and the usual complaints, it is a baffling experience cognitively. I want to be more precise in my evaluation here than I usually am about AI.
The creator of the AI agent βEinsteinβ wants to free humans from the burden of academic labor, saying it's just like when horses were replaced by cars. Critics say that misses the point of education entirely.
