Very cool. I think l am onto my third re-read of the series. And, yes, utterly terrifying.

Nothing more beautiful than a 1960s era west Berlin cinema at night.
Visiting an old friend in Britain this weekend. Waiting for my train. I have bought appropriate reading.
Satanik goes hard. This was an Italian pulp fumettis but these look like French editions.

One book l discussed in my latest newsletter was Burning Down the Haus: Punk Rock, Revolution and the Fall of the Berlin Wall by Tim Mohr, which showed how many opposition groups in former Soviet bloc wanted a more democratic form of socialism. Can anyone rec books that explore this in more detail?
Who was Tyroc?
I hope this gets more people to see this important and heartbreaking movie.
Bullying people won't work. People have a genocide in real time on their phones and a majority of Americans want it to end.

That is my favourite, l think.

Argentinian pulp covers, circa maybe the 1960s. I love how incredibly lurid and dark they are.
The post below is yet another wonderful example that pulp culture was not just a US, UK, or even Australian phenomenon. It was global. If this interests you then give me a follow as l regularly post material and observations on midcentury pulp culture.

I wonder if they are real?

My current non-fiction read. I understand this book copped criticism in Germany for humanising the GDR, but that is really its whole point. Hoyer directly says this in the introduction. And from what l can gather, it’s a much overdue analysis. Whatever, sixty pages in and l am finding fascinating
Intetesting. What history book does not have that? Of course, in terms of critical commentary, there is a right and wrong to be biased towards, isn’t there?

I think a lot of you are focusing too much on Trump in what’s going on in the Middle East and not enough on the wider systemic issue. That is that countless administrations, on both sides of the aisle, have laid the ground work for the attack on Iran.

I hope it helps. A great book that should be read

A strong endorsement for Friedrich Torberg's powerful novella, Vengeance is Mine, coming later this month in the Recovered Books series from @bhousepress.bsky.social.
My latest Substack missive reports back on some of the crime fiction, film & other culture that has preoccupied me over a cold Berlin winter. Featuring John Turturro’s latest, Australian & Argentinian crime fiction, and the Baader Meinhof on the screen.
